Default What is UP with these Spark Plugs????

Please read entire post

I bought a truck from my Neighbor after he wrecked it.

It's a 5.3 out of a 2005 Silverado 181K miles

What could cause all the plugs to look like this?

It was wrecked down the street and was running fine at the accident.

I towed it home and started in the shop purred like a kitten. I took the engine out and pulled the plugs and this is what they looked like.

1. All 8 plugs looks the same to a degree.

2. Truck ran perfect, no tick, Idled perfect, no check engine light.

3. Did not smoke

4. plugs have 100k on them.

5. There was oil coming out of the intake after we removed it. could this be caused from tipping the engine on removal?

6. Guy who had it before said it ran fine but this is coming from a guy who never changed the plugs in the 5 years he had it.

Have not done a compression check yet but will in a few days.

What could cause all the plugs to look like this?

Would this be a gamble in a swap?

Any help would be great.

I would say they have all 181,000 miles on them. And if he was that lazy. You can bet he never changed the oil either. Looks like it's burning oil. And a possibly coolant also. Probably using garbage oil to add when it starts ticking bad. Could just be the valve seals. Have you pulled the valve covers off to see how inside the motor looks. There you will be able to see how gunked up it is. If it's not. Prolly just valve seals. Ask him if it was using coolant also. If it is, then it's either a head gasket, or a cracked head.

Thanks for the info... I took the valve covers off but I did not know what I was really looking for.

I will take pictures of it and post them so you can examine.
