That is the Torsen 'paddle',it should go back in as easily as it came out,UNLESS the repair/maintenance you performed are keeping the axle(s) inward. Did the c-clips install properly ?

So the cclips both went in with no problem but the gears around them seem to close together one guy told me to adjust the shims and it'll be fine.? I would need to pull the main caps off then pull the gears out.

The internals of a Torsen carrier were never considered to be serviceable/adjustable. Have you tried pulling the axles(with c-clips on) to reset the internals apart as they would be before the paddle was pulled out.
You still haven't stated why you had it apart. I've never heard of a re-insertion problem.
Changing gearset to 4.10 will create tooth/paddle interference.

Default Torsen Block Paddle

I had a badly squeak that i needed to fix before my road trip so I was just replaced the bearings a d seals, after I got to the point of reassembly I just went to put it back and it didn't fit so what's I ended up doing was pulling the diff out and pushed it backed once I got it out with my hands it was a very simple fix but to move it back its simple enough, it doesn't squeak anymore instead of using gear oil I packed it with a little high temp grease
