I’m starting a 5.3l swap in a 81 Monte Carlo. I’ve gutted the entire interior and am going for a light, unique street car. I got my hands on an aluminum 5.3 out of a GMC Yukon. I’m going for 7-900 hp. Is it possible with this block? Do I have to replace the bottom end? I figured I’d need a cam, intake, valve train, heads, arp studs, injectors and a turbo. Keeping budget in mind what’s the best way I can do this. Please give me ideas and opinions. Thanks guys.

If you put some forged pistons and rods in it you are good to go. A set of ARP head bolts or studs either will do, MLS gaskets, cam, springs and pushrods. The motor will be set. Give us a call if we can help. 972-853-2450 -Thompson Motorsports

I’m guessing that s with a turbo on top of all that? And what about fuel? Can I get away with pump gas or would I need race fuel? And I’ve seen a lot of guys machining out the vvt.. is it worth it?

I agree with the above advice on getting forged pistons and rods to meet your hp goals reliably. That will also allow you to get dished pistons to drop your compression ratio from the stock ~10:1. You could get the stock heads ported and select a boost oriented camshaft. You will need much larger injectors and a high volume fuel pump. I don't know how well the truck intake manifolds flow for boosted applications, however most people swap them out for aesthetics anyway.

Hi Kasin, the GEN-IV AL block will work fine at 98mm Bore or LESS.
YES, fit Forged Rods & Forged Pistons.
KEEP the VVT, camshaft, heads (add S/S Valves), Truck Intake if possible ?
I would fit a 4.00" Forged Crankshaft with the money saved by GOOD advice.
The GEN-IV Al block is as a LS-3 BUT with VERY thick Cylinder walls.
I can supply the required items ?
