I have a 2007 Avalanche with a 5.3. I use it sparingly as I have other daily drivers to use but we do use it to haul the fish&ski boat along with camping gear frequently throughout the year. I've always thought it was in need of more power as it is difficult to maintain speed going uphill. It is now starting to show its age and will need motor/trans replacement soon so I'm starting to look at options.
I want to keep cost to a minimum while increasing the useable power that it should have for hauling. Looking for thoughts and info

If it is an LM7 iron block 5.3 liter motor, it has enough meat in the cast iron cylinder walls to be bored out to a 5.7 liter displacement. That would minimize the trouble and cost of fitting a different motor, no re-flash of your PCM required and you will get what will essentially be a brand new motor during the rebuild of your engine. Consider a cam swap at the time and it should have plenty of power though that might force a re-flash tune in your PCM.
