Default LS head numbers

Not sure this is the right spot for this but,,, I see all kinds of heads numbers but are any better then others? I have 5.3 I'm putting in a K5 and I'm gonna put a new cam in it and thought since its apart maybe find a little better head... Any ideas?

The 5.3's usually have 243 heads. Those are the best GM cathedral port heads in my opinion. The 799s are the same, and come on some 5.3's. If you have either of those, I would recommend keeping them.

My 5.3 came with 862's which are small bore heads and can also be found on 4.8's which had a 3.780 bore. The 241's came on the 5.7 which had the 3.898 bore and the 243's which are the better of all of them and started out on the ZO6 and then the GTO's which had the LS2 or 6.0 aluminum block which had a 4.00 inch bore.

I do believe mine has the 862

If I where building NA then I would either find some 243's and have them milled or do a little port/polish work to the 862's and have them machined for the 2.00 intake valve but in stock form those small bore engines with the 862's are very responsive.
