help me id the motor / trans
Sir,
I have an unidentified engine and transmission.
The only anecdotal information I have is it is out of a 2014 Chevy Silverado
Theses are the numbers I have off of the complete engine and transmission :
256132 stamped on the top RR of block
12560392 on oil pan
502 on right side of block
24208015-6 on tail shaft of transmission
42 3152 2334 on left side of transmission
53 on both heads
862 also stamped behind alternator, passenger and driver side of block.
I have no vin number to help with the identification. The motor/transmission is part of an investigation we are conducting.
Thank you for your time and effort in this identification

862 on the Cylinder heads(behind the alternator and on both sides), those come from 4.8 and 5.3 V8 truck engines, so you're on the right path with the Silverado. So assuming they're the factory heads, that is either a 5.3 or a 4.8 Lite V8. I don't know how far you are able to tear it down for you investigation but if you can either pull the heads off or pull a spark plug and use a snake cam/bore cam you can tell the difference between the 4.8 and the 5.3 by the top of the pistons. If there is no visible lip and it is a flat top piston it should be a 4.8. If it is dished and you can see a slightly lipped circle about a 1/4 of an inch from the outer edge of the piston it's a 5.3. If I remember correctly the 4.8 is in the single cab trucks and the 5.3 is in the Extended cab/crew cab trucks.
I hope that helps.
