Default Newbie. Gen 4 work in gen 3 car?

are all the parts interchangeable? I have a 98 z28 needs a motor found a short block gen 4 5.3 for cheap and was wondering if it’ll still plug and play to factory gen 3 harness

Not plug & play. You can work around the crank issue with the Lingenfelter TRG-002 58X to 24X crankshaft trigger adapter. Then you'll need to deal with the differences in the knock sensors, map sensor, non cable throttle body etc. As a "newbie" a gen3 engine will be a much easier swap, plus that crank trigger adapter box is $275

The cable/electric throttle body shouldn't be a problem. Just put the LS1 throttle body and intake on the 5.3 engine. The 5.3 "truck" intake won't fit under the F-body hood, so you have to swap that anyway. Keep the LS1 PCM, and get the Lingenfelter switch box as mentioned before. The LS1 MAP sensor wire will have to be extended, but that task isn't rocket science. I'm not sure about the knock sensor issue. I'm sure that has been addressed before, so there should be info on how to do that somewhere.
