Default What Motor Is This LY6?

I am looking at purchasing a motor that came out of a chevy truck 2008. It has 6.0 stamped on it, has 821 heads, iron block, and is stamped on the side of block L46 (it def. is not a late model engine not sure what the L46 means though I know they had a L46 in 70')... Any idea what this engine is? I'm thinking it is a LY6? It also has the flat valley cover TIA

That would be an LY6 for sure. I bought an ‘08 LY6 myself. Had 80k on it. Great engines.

$2500 in 2012. Bought it and a 30k mile L33 at the same time. LY6 had 80k miles. Very clean. I tore it down and did bearings and rings. Bearings looked like new. Heck I kept them to do setup work with, still in my toolbox. Put a Mast VVT camshaft, LS3 Intake, and headers on it. Mast Electronics also to take advantage of true VVT movement…GM electronics won’t allow as much movement. Put about 1500 miles on it in front of a t56 and pulled it when I put the 434 in. Just sold it this spring actually. I had converted the iron block over to an aluminum LS2 block. Direct swap over.

Default VVT Delete

Guess my guy is hooking me up for $1000 then.... Sounds like you are pro VVT I was going to do a VVT delete and get aggressive on the CAM with something giving good range through the power curve

$1k is a deal for sure. I like the VVT tech. I fully understand it and it really works. I’m pro VVT yes, but my 434 doesn’t have it. It has its place and I don’t think I’d trust the GM setup at 8k rpm….which is why the 434 doesn’t have it.
