Default Gen 3 / gen 4

I have a 5.3 Gen 3 engine that I bought from a junk yard. Upon tear down I noticed it has the Gen 4 rods with the dimple and floating wrist pins were most Gen 3 had press in wrist pins. I also herd GM made what was called a cross over engine and was wondering if this is what I may have. My concern that it is not a 4.8, as they have the dimple on their rods and floating wrist pins also. My question is how can I tell for sure I have a true 5.3 and not a 4.8.

Thanks,

Kenny

You can look in the spark plug hole to see what kind of pistons on in it too (flat vs dished)

There are some 5.3 engines that use flat top pistons. These include the aluminum L33, LH6, and LC9. But there could be more. Also, if the engine has been rebuilt, many people upgrade to flat top pistons.
