Engine testing before swap

Default Engine testing before swap

I am almost done with rebuilding a 5.3l (LM7) engine and really want to test run it before swapping it into my Jeep. I do not have a proper engine run stand and dont have the time or funds for one right now. Can anyone share some advice or suggestions on how to get it running outside of the vehicle just for testing purposes? Thanks.

Any chance you could find a local engine dyno? You mentioned not a lot of coin at the moment, but that might be cheapest way if you can't find a run stand to use/buy/borrow?

Thank you for the suggestion. I have contacted a local dyno shop to see if this is possible.

For sure man, glad to help. Be sure and ask them "what do I need to have ready for you". Dyno guys' (especially if you're there for tuning) biggest pet peeve is when they're told that you're ready and you're not. Just a tip there. Good luck, and report back.

FWIW,, if you take the front fenders and the grill off, (about 20 minutes work) (Assuming a YJ/TJ)
You can drop the motor in and out with about zero effort.. And its SOOOO much easier to string all the wiring..

Yes, it is going into a 2006 TJ. Actually the fenders and grill are already off the Jeep in preparation for removing the stock engine. I'd have to cut the original engine mounts and weld in the new ones and drop the original trans to fit the new engine in. It is an option, but seems like it still would be easier to test run it outside of the vehicle.

Are you not sure your going to swap? because the whole LS family uses the same mounts in the jeep.
I used NOVAK, (YJ) took about 2 hours to cut the old ones off with a cuttoff wheel and mig weld the new ones on.
Their directions were spot on.

Note: C5/LS2/LS3 exhaust manifolds are sweet on a Jeep, the truck manifolds are too wide on the driver side,
Headers were not gonna be worth it for me.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I already received the Novak engine mounts but have not cut the old mounts out yet. I also ordered Novak's headers but its been two months and they still cannot give me an ETA on when they will have some in stock. I am open to suggestions on another brand of headers to use that will work with the Novak mounts on a Jeep TJ.

I rebuild them and run them on my engine stand. i rachet strap it down so it doesnt go anywhere

I rebuild them and test them right on the engine stand. make sure you ratchet strap it so it doesnt go anywhere
