Question about custom exhaust transition
Borla makes this exhaust tip that would fit perfectly in the bumper cutouts on my 2000 T/A. Only problem is this exhaust tip only has a 2.5" inlet and my pipes are 3.5". If I restrict the 3.5" pipe to a 2.5" I'll be losing power. But I talked to a machine shop and he said he could cut the inlet of these tips, make a transition that would go from my 3.5" pipes to something similar to the size and shape of the borla tips and it wouldn't rob me of any power. Basically he's saying he's going to take the 3.5" circle and flatten it slighty to fit the tips without restricting air flow. The borla tips are 3" x 6.69".
Does anyone see a reason that this would NOT work?

Dual 2.5" tail pipes (which would be 5" total) isn't going to restrict anything short of massive power, either from huge cubes/FI and/or extremely high rpm operation.
Hard to imagine any street setup that would actually need dual 3.5" tail pipes (7" total) to prevent being the most restrictive part of the system (enough so for there to be actual power loss). So then I assume you already have a fully mandrel bent dual 3.5" system in place...that's gotta be a tight fit over the axle, unless you went under.
