Default GTO Check Engine Oil Warning

Hello, I was wondering if I could get some advice. When I let my LS2 GTO (cammed) warm up for less than 5 minutes, as soon as I get above 2.5k rpm it pops up with check oil level on the dash. What could this be? Is it a sensor/electrical issue or mechanical issue? I have a Melling high pressure oil pump. Thanks.

Default No Drive Time

Most racing cars can NOT be operated until their oil is warm.
Think of Maple Syrup taken out of the Fridge, it will not purr until it is at room tempurrature..
READ the oil dipstick for color, Brown is BAD.
Clear like the Black Syrip is GOOD

What? Nothing you said has ANYTHING to do with what the OP asked.

The GTO does not have a oil level sensor. If it is telling you to check the oil it could be indicating that you have no oil pressure. It could be a faulty oil pressure sensor but that is too serious an issue to just assume it is a faulty sensor. DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR until you confirm what the issue is. You could also have a loose oil pickup or a pinched or wrong o-ring on the pickup tube. Was the engine apart when you put on the new oil pump? If so, did your oil pan have the DOD valve in it? And if so, did you delete the valve and plug the outlet?

If you don't have a mechanical oil pressure gauge connected, you can check the oil pressure the OBDII system is reading by activating the secret menu on the gauge cluster.

Also, the GTO has an oil change reminder. Are you sure the message you are getting is not the oil change reminder and not the check the oil message? Were any OBDII codes set? If you haven't checked for codes, do so ASAP.

Oil change reminder message: Service Engine Oil
Oil pressure too low message: Check Engine Oil

Default Under Pressure

OK, I will ask a question ABOUT OIl Pressure.
My Racing engines needed 100 PSI, with HOT OIL ( AT SONG)
COLD oil WILL READ high pressure until the engine is at temp.
OLD oil ?
Thus I ask, "what colure" is YOUR Dip Sick?

Rich, when did they stop using the oil level sensor? My '04 gto motor (in my corvette) had it and I still use it. Just a level sensor with a dry open/closed switch to the ecm. In my case I just put voltage on it to an idiot light. Also my 02 gmc truck has it but that's a couple years behind. I kind like having it with the pcv/oil consumption problem I haven't resolved yet.

None of the GTOs ever had an oil level sensor on the engine from the factory. They have an oil pressure sensor but not an oil level sensor.

I would assume that to get a GTO LS1 into your Corvette you had to remove the GTO oil pan and replace it with one that would fit the Corvette. The non-GTO oil pans have a provision for an oil level sensor, the GTO oil pans do not.

Ahh, that would explain it! Also would explain why I didn't go to the ecm with a signal and just used it as a dry switch.

I have a Bosch oil pressure gauge, I've never looked at it while it occurs as I'm looking at the rpm, but I did just have a P0522 set last week. Oil pressure is fine the rest of the time. I need to look at it when I do it again though, it might be faulty? I'm doing my oil change soon, so anything that I could replace I will.
