2000 Z28 - 72000 miles
Original owner I bought new 10/00 with 307 miles.
Replaced valve springs at 8000 miles. (valves were floating due to crappy stock springs)
Not bad for 80 or so 1/4 passes and 20+ dyno pulls never mind many many street runs with friends and others.
Clutch replaced at 21000 miles.
Roof replaced due to paint bubbling at 12000 miles (7/03)
Clutch replaced at 21000 miles. (due to abuse literally)
At 18000 miles - 10/03. Gave the Z to my wife because I got an 02 SS.
18000 miles (10/03) - 70000 miles (1/06)- wife commuted in the Z. Easy highway miles. Traded off 02 SS and took the Z back.
This 2000 Z28 drives like it did with 300 miles with the exception of power.
It has more since it broke in. Not one rattle or squeek (hard-top car). Only a few rock chips.
Now the story on the 2002 SS the car I gave the Z up for (2+ yrs).
My 02 SS was a peice of $h!t! Yep I said it, an SS a PEICE OF $h!t. I was nice to this car with plans on keeping it for a long time.
Bought it with 13000 (10/03) miles from original owner (old man wanting a drop top Vette) got rid of it 31000 (1/06). It was flawless.
Leaked oil (dealer replaced rear seal) still leaked afterwards. RATTLED and SQEEKED (T-Top car).
Cats took a crap. Intake leak #6 port, Rear end was noisey, front left wheel bearing assy took a crap, Roof paint bubbled - all fixed by GM warranty.
Other problems, piston slap that would never shut up, tranny would stick in 4th at times.
The SS did not run as hard as my Z as noted by running against a few friends and thier cars (same cars, same mods).
On the dyno both had a lid and catback
SS - 319 RWHP 338 RWTQ
Z28 - 325 RWHP 334 RWTQ.
In the 1/4 both lid & catback
Z - 13.3@107 - 2.3 60' Aug 99*F low BARO 29.2ish
SS - 13.5 106 - 2.3 60' Mar 67*F high Baro 30.1ish
