i agree with the others. ture that most fire birds you see are v-6s(around here anyways), and an ls1 is a great platform for power, but you have a rare car. considering the year, id say that is probably the best looking body of a buick ive ever seen. if you want a better driver, get a 6spd and some suspension work done. otherwise, KEEP THE CAR, and save for an ls1. my .02 cents

I say keep the GN. I was going to buy a GN that a guy down the street has but he backed out when it came down to it. I just bought a Black 2000 WS6. I would love to own a GN. They are great cars. I'd work a deal with you also. I still say you should keep it.

im still deciding weather i wanna keep it or not. but i really want something a little more fun. thats why i want the tans am with the six speed. if you were to put a six speed in a grand national it will slow the car down do to the way the manual trans is geared. id trade for a ws6 any day though.

what do you guys think?
If I was you, I'd keep it. However I understand wanting something different. I've been around a lot of Turbo6 cars and one thing I remember is always working on them for one reason or another. Usually fixing them because of reliability issues, silly stuff like A/C, Power Steering, Power windows, door locks, ignition modules whatever...it just get's OLD after a while.

However, the car is ALMOST a classic, 5-8 more years and owning one (and a nice one at that) will be something special.

When parting with a sports car I put things in terms like. For what I have in this car and for what I can sell it for (depending on which one is higher) what could I get?

With my Supra, nothing came close for the Money I had in it but I needed to buy a house (29 years old and still renting) so I sold it for that purpose and now I have another f-car. For you....the most I think you could sell the GN right now for is what?..... take that number and decide if that money would go far getting you something that can really replace it?

Chances are you'll decide to keep it if you look at it through those terms.

i took it to the track on a blown trans and it went 12.1 at 115. the 2-3 shift took longer then it should. i also did a 40 foot burnout out of the whole. it was 40 degrees out that day. not good conditions for hooking up.

The GN is definitely the sharpest looking car ever IMO. Want more power and maybe some more reliability? LS1 swap.

93 6 speeds (2.73 or 3.23) have better ratios for racing then the 94+ a 93 6 speed out of a 2.73 geared car would probably be the best for drag racing. Probably be alittle difficult to find though. Heres alittle chart for ya(sorry it sucks I can;'t make it come out good ). How is your auto geared?

93 2.73 93 3.23 94+
1 3.36 2.97 2.66
2 2.07 2.07 1.78
3 1.35 1.43 1.30
4 1.00 1.00 1.00
5 .80 .80 .74
6 .62 .62 .5

Funny how this Mid Eighties car still spanks vettes after its been gone for 19 years. Love it

Ahh I see you are butt-hurt by my comment and feel the need to get some retribution by attacking the car I drive. How clever (and what an impressive first post might I add). I guess I should feel honored that someone who registered their account over a year ago, came out of the woodwork to make their first post on account of my opinion. Anyways your point holds no water. Looks are subjective; me saying the car looks like a box-on-wheels is my opinion. Performance is definitely not as subjective. Your argument that it 'spanks vettes' after 19 years isn't exactly accurate. GNX's run mid 13's in stock form. That's certainly not enough to 'spank' a stock C5 (not to mention, stock v. stock, it certainly won't 'spank' a C5z, C6, C6z, LT5, LT4, etc.).

The LS1 is a great motor but the 3.8 V6 in the GN will take you into the 10s for less money. As far as reliabilty, parts are just going to wear out on a 20 year old car. A GN can hold up pretty well as a daily driver but I wouldn't recomend it.
As looks go, I think the GN and the WS6 or probably the 2 meanest-looking rides GM has ever produced. I have both but the GN will usually get the most attention on a cruise night. It draws a crowd like Jessica Alba in a bikini
