So Ive had my 99 SS for about two months now, and I took out the rear to put a Moser 12bolt in. It wouldnt kick posi and it embarressed me at the track. Well, once the "stocker" came out I took the diff cover off....It was an F`n V6 rear end in there. It didnt have any springs in the differential and get a load of this.......it had 3.08 gears! Thats why I got such great MPG, and couldnt hook up no matter what i tried

Needless to say the 4.10s made the car as fast as I would expect an LS1 fbody be. I guess the previouse owner either grenaded it and sold the car or maybe he had an aftermarkett rear and wanted to keep it so he put a junk yard rear in. The housing did have yellow markings on it like junkyards do.

My car had the same ****! The girl I bought it from said it had "some rear end work done". The speedometer was off, but I was excited as **** when I bought it (3 days before my 18th b-day). Took off the cover and found out it was a 3.08 lol. This explained why I had such good traction on the street w/ 245/50/r16's!
I destroyed that bitch and replaced with a Moser March '05.

LoL it would hook on the street but because it was a one wheel peel the track was a much different story.
My best time was 14.8@102MPH and a 2.77 60 Ft time. I was like WTF?!?!?!!??! There was no hooking this thing. That was myfirst clue. Andsecond, the speedo was saying I wasgoing 10 MPH SLOWER then I really was.
And yes, first gear was killer. It felt even longer then second is with 4.10`s. I kinda liked it, I only took it past 4k when I was REALLY getting into it.

I wen't from 3.08's to 4.11's in mine, which is what most Moser "4.10's" really are (37/9 = 4.1111). 4.11's w/ 315 nittos in 1st gear was an eye opening experience after driving around with those damn 3.08's for so long!
