everyone speeds. i'm frequently 5-10mph over. everyone guns it sometimes. i take a WOT run from a red light to 70 in a 55 every now and then...but i immediately slow down. again, everyone speeds. if i'm on a back road with no houses, no cars and it's straight, i may take a run up to 100mph VERY RARELY, but i slow back down. one thing i NEVER do is cruise at 90. even on empty freeways i put the cruise on at 75mph. there's just no need to be crusing that fast anywhere. sustained speed is what kills. a little run on an empty, wide road up to 100 then instantly slowing down will likely be harmless. cruising around at 94 on a back road for miles is just STUPID. if you're in that much of a rush, leave 5 mins early next time.

and buy yourself a radar detector. i don't go more than 5-10mph over without one and never take WOT runs over the speed limit. shoot, with a detector i don't even speed more than anyone else on the road. i'm too scared of getting a ticket.

i'm 20 btw. if i can keep it under control, so can you.

Also to the thread starter you really need to slow down. I can understand wanting to go fast but 95 in a 55?

yea....right, or maybe you just never got CAUGHT...there is a slight difference.

Parents can do things now-a-days. There is a device that my company uses for it's company vehicles called "Drive Right". It reads right off the ECM. BAsically it will take logs of speed, HARD acceleration, HARD Deacceleation etc etc....and all downloadable to a computer...pretty nifty huh??? They've fired quite a few guys!

edit: I speed as well...cruise betten 70-80 here in Ft Worth on I-20 between Fort Worth and Dallas. But the thing is...I'm going WITH the flow of traffic, and don't weave in and out of traffic. I just keep up! Not like the Arlington or Grand Prairie cop can pull everybody over..just the idiots that are looking for an accident.

I know in Illinois atleast, you have the right to see the radar gun for what it read(or so from what i've been told). So if the cop was lying about the speed on the ticket it might get thrown out.

cell phone cameras are great for this. if you get pulled over, ask to see the radar gun because you believe he may be mistaken. shoot a snapshot. print it and submit it to court.

btw, consider yourself lucky. $95 for 21mph over is a joke. in NJ, you'd be looking at $200+ and if you wanna take it to court or pay off your points, $500 is not unrealistic.

Hey, I fucked Up way worse than you did when I was 17 and it was in new york. I only had my license for 4 months, so i was still on driving probation, and I was in a high speed chase, i got a 120 in a 35 ticket and 20 more various tickets and it ended in an accident. After i got out of jail (it was only 2 days and not because of the traffic tickets), i got a lawyer. I ended up with a $900 fine and i lost my license for 6 months. My insurance went up to $120 a month for liability on an oldsmobile delta 88, it used to be $100. my insurance just went down this year and the chase happened in 2001. I pay 198 a month for full coverage on a 00 WS6 TA and a 98 LeSabre. I haven't recieved a ticket since then. So if i were you i would get a lawyer or at least plead not guilty, sometimes the judge will reduce it. if you cant get it reduced i would expect to pay between $200 and $300. If your state has the probation thing and you just got your license, you will lose your license for 6 months. Don't sweat it though its not as bad as it seems, trust me. If you are in the country i can see doing 94 in a 55. all the roads besides interstate in NY are 55 and there were roads that were 3 miles long and straight with nothing but fields on the sides, but why? Honestly, the way you drive affects peoples opinion of you, its a small percentage of people who think its cool to drive that way, everybody else thinks that you are an *******. even people your own age, they just never say anything. I used to drive like an idiot and i thought it was cool, but it got me in trouble with school, my parents, and people around town. I went from that "good Kid" to that "little bastard" in a few weeks and that was before the chase. I was not a good kid before i could drive but every thing i did wrong was unnoticed until After. you might think other peoples opinions don't matter and they don't, until you need something. Nobody wants to help that little **** who spins his tires and speeds all over town. Its not worth it. Just be safe

My first car was my 95 Formula and I got an 87 in a 50. Yes its a good idea to ask to see the radar.
In ohio you would have about a 250 dollar fine, 30 day mandatory suspension and two points. Atleast that was the case when I was 16, Im 21 now.
I had ten points on my liscence two years ago and I havnt gotten on since.
I`m not saying not to get into it nowand then, but dont travel at sustained highspeeds. Take her up on a clear road but then slow back down. Atleast have the curtousy (sp?) to other people in the on coming traffic to not act like a near miss missle.
Ive been where you are at. Ive had more then my fair share of ticketts. Its not worth it when your insurence is 400 dollars a month. You have nothing to prove, and neither does your car, so take it easy.

To answer the question about cost, here in tx its about $11 for every MPH your over the posted speed, so if it's like that where you are, you're looking at paying around $430,

Id would deff. invest in a radar detector, mine has saved my *** more than once!!

look, i hate to be counter to all the others but...

lets be honest guys we've all gone fast in these cars, and 94 isn't the end of the world. I'm not defending you, and you got what you deserved for speeding. we all have. BUT its not the end of the world. Try to get a diversion if they offer that there... they do here...

basically you pay more and if you don't get a ticket for another year or so, your record is wiped. Never hits insurance.

You fucked up, you've learned, now its time to pay for your play. Tell your parents right away, dont let it go any longer. I cant belive you haven't told em yet. Dont listen to everyone bitching at you, everyone does it, or has done it once or twice, you got caught. Take it to court, pay your fines, get on with life.

I definatly agree. I don't speed (much at least, you'll find me at 5 over sometimes) but a radar is definatly a good investment. Even if you're not speeding, it's a friendly reminder to watch what you're doin such as use turn signals, make sure you're doing 1 under, etc.

BTW, every state is different. Here in KS you can take diversion for it, it doesn't go on your record and you only pay a few extra bucks, but the catch is you have to be good for 6 months or a year.. i don't remember from when my friend got it.

Oh and definatly tell the parents right away.

My mom always told me if I did something stupid about it and told her the truth, she'd be disapointed. If I did something stupid and lied about it and she found out about it, im dead. I'm sure all parents would rather you be up front about it than lie and try to sneak it away from them, because one way or another they WILL find out.

#1. In Texas, if you are given any ticket when you are 16 years old, it's MANDATORY that you and your legal guardian show up to court to see a judge. Even if you wish to just plead guilty and pay the fine.

#2. You can certainly ask to see the radar gun, but in no way is the officer obliged to show you. In most states you do NOT have the right to see the radar gun.

actually im 17 years old and i have a 99 Trans Am. you are very ignorant. sure i speed sometimes but so do u and so does everyone else on this board. speeding in a f-body on a back road isnt exactly the smartest idea. if you havent noticed, the f-bodies arent exactly the best handling car. i came from driving a 92 240sx hatch to driving this Trans Am. curves i was apexing @ 70+ i now have to take @ 45. there are places to speed and places not to speed. dragstrips are to speed, its a controlled environment. backroads, highways, and interstates are not to speed on, hence the reason we have cops that sit on the side of the road with radar guns. im not flaming you dude because i love speed but i know when and where i can. and to ******* splitz. ive never had a ticket in my Trans Am so not every teenager drives irratically on the highway. your just ignorant and stereotypical and like to think that you are superior because you are older and i call bullsh*t on that 1. seems like you are the one that needs to grow up and realize because 1 teen got caught doesnt mean the whole 100,000,000 others do also. kid get a radar detector and slow down on public roads. take it to a drag strip where theres no traffic and an ambulance incase anything goes wrong. keep it safe. and to the guy that got pulled over in the big truck, im from Alabama and of course we have alot of trucks that are lifted with mud tires and a few of my friends have been pulled over and they argued that the tires through off the speedo and they took it and had the speedo calibrated for the much larger tires and the tickets were dropped. its something to try atleast

Everyone speeds, whether or not they want to admit it. Some more than others but still. The biggest thing here isn't the age of the driver, it's the maturity level of the driver and the self-control that person has. You shouldn't have posted that you were being irresponsible, you kinda asked for a flaming IMO.

ANYWAYS, yeah, you're lucky the ticket isn't more AND that you didn't get the reckless driving ticket. Own up to your rents and go on with life.

Yeah, definitely tell your parents as soon as you can. My dad always told me to just tell the truth and things work out a lot better. Luckily, I havent been in your shoes. I bought the car brand new in 2001 and have only gotten pulled over once for being in the wrong place at the wrong time (no ticket and the cop actually started a conversation with me and complimented me on my attitude and my car). I have made numerous runs into the triple digits and even raced a couple times on the interstate with speeds in excess of 160, but I never runhigh speeds for long. I get a good run real quick and i let out and hit the brakes to bring it back down. Anything over 125 mph on a public road is flirting with death in my opinion. There are too many variables that cannot be controlled. I run 5 over the speed limit in every day driving and that seems to be fine with local law enforcement. I have no radar detector and dont plan on getting one. You arent totally screwed. You will have to have your parents present in court, but if your state is like mine, you can take a defensive driving class and it not only takes the ticket off of your record, it lowers your insurance slightly. I have had plenty of friends do this. Whatever happens, learn a lesson from this. LS1s have nothing at all to prove... just relax, take it easy, and slow it down so people can actually admire the car.
