I've been back and forth on this for years.
When I was in High School back in the mid-'90s, after spending some time with old school muscle (a '71 Cutlass with a mild SBC), I decided that all I wanted was a Firebird or T/A. At the time the LT1 cars were the newest and hottest thing as there was no LS1 on the market yet. I couldn't afford a new one so I started looking at used 3rd gens; at the time it wasn't hard to find a nice one.
I bought an '89 Formula 350 hardtop, black with a silver bottom. Clean car, I loved it. Drove it for the rest of HS and kept it for a couple years after. Then the LS1s came out in '98 and I really disliked the new Firebird/TA from clip at first, but the Camaros were still lookin' good to me. So I had a little more money at that point and I bought a brand new '99 Pewter Z28. It wasn't quite the color I wanted (wanted silver) but it was close, and the deal was so good that I just went for it.
One year later, the Trans Ams had started to grow on me and I really had the itch to get back into a Firebird of some sort. So I bought my '00 WS6. I had that car for well over 4 years and it was a blast. But I didn't plan to be racing much more, and the thought of going back to stock on that car just didn't excite me, so I sold it to move on to something else. At first I planned to buy a Vette, but after checking out a C4 and a couple C5s I decided that I wasn't quite ready for a Vette yet, I still wanted more raw muscle car and less refined sports car.
At this point I was able to reflect back on both of the 4th gens I had owned to decide which I like better. After years of owning somthing as wild and flashy looking as a bright red WS6, I decided that I was actually happier with the look of the Camaro. I missed the Camaro's cleaner lines, the lesser body cladding, the fixed headlights, etc. I realized that it actually took owning both cars to figure out which look I liked better.
So, making a long story short (yeah, too late ), I searched for the Camaro that I wanted in the first place many years back; and I found the '98 Silver Z28 that I own today.
In the end, I still love the Trans Am/Firebirds as well. But given the choice, I'll pick the Camaro every time and never look back.

I prefer the Camaro body style lines to the T\A..to me the T\A is just too bizzzy..too many lumps and bumps all over it....the smooth lines of the Camaro are more attractive to me. To me the Z28 was the original..the real deal..the T\A was a marketing after thought..

My First car was a 77 T/A. Loved that car, but traded it for an 82 camaro, then an 86 camaro, then a 98 camaro, then my 00 SS. I have had other cars in between & at the same time, But I'm a Camaro guy. No regrets. The SS is the best.

I had a 2000 SS and now I have the Hawk. I like both, but I prefer the Camaro. I'm in a league of my own, but I prefer the Camaro interior over the Pontiac. If I could trade my Hawk right now for my old SS, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But I do love that Hawk!!

I am the camaro type. I love the t/a (especially the ws6) but the camaro just fits me better and I like it more. Besides the SS is a legendary name. My first car was a 72 Nova SS and I still have it. Now it's the Camaro SS and it will stay that way for me! Can't wait for the next SS to come out.

ive had both and both have their advantages...there are a lot that gripe about the camaro seats versus the t/a seats and i can see where theyre coming from, the ta seats hugged you like no tomarrow, but i fit in the camaro seat perfect and like the headrest more. my car is definitely more rare in my area than a t/a or a ws6. so im kinda proud to own the minority car like many others....i wish i had a t/a when it came to shopping for exhaust though, it looks 20x better on those cars. but i enjoy the smooth look of my ss versus the chizzled look of the ws6...thats just my .02. plus my SS is a coupe and my t/a was a vert and i just like ttops more. i also dont like the name "trans am" cuz the car never ran in a trans am event, had too much displacement. its like false advertising.

man with that red, white, and blue badge, that's one sexy lookin' catfish
Oh, and yeah, I wanted a SS or Z28 when I bought mine, as long as it was m6 vert. Turned out I got the exact combo I wanted except SS would have been nice, but not worth the extra money to me, and like I said this Z28 was perfect for me I like the pontiacs too, but to me the T/A is a little ricey for my taste, though I would gladly own one.

when i was looking for a new car i wasnt looking for just a camaro or firebird i was looking for a m6- ws6 or ss f body or a corvette(z06) for the right price, i just happend to like my ss and and its price the best. although i like the ws6 hood maybe slightly better then the ss i think the ss looks alot more refined. the sides, and back, and wing etc on the ws6 is not my favorite.i test drove an older ss lt1 camaro for way less$ and my 00 ss. the ls1 was on a different level- interior, exterior, performance, noise, everything on the ls1 was better imo.

Yup hence the "best stock time" ... lol my car def didn't put down 378 from the factory
I havn't been to the track since i started modding ... i learned how expensive it is to break stuff.

Nope i got a mullet...gonna stick with the Camaro" then i'd understand i mean, if the camaro and the TA ever got into a fight, the TA definitely looks like it would beat the camaro's ***. it's a lot more muscular.
all joking aside, the camaro is a nice car, but like it has been mentioned serval times in this thread, it needs some work. i like a red camaro w/an SS hood, black racing strips and gunmetal ZO6 rims. there was one at a dealership that i pass every day on the way to work that was described as above that was the sweetest camaro i have ever seen. that having been said, i'd still never take a camaro over a firebird, but that's why i bought a firebird, so to each his own.
one day i hope to have one of each, my current firebird and an SS exactly as i described above. that car was pure sex...as far as a camaro can do it that is
