I live in michigan and I have only got stuck once and thats cuz I was messin around in an unbuilt subdivision with unplowed roads(paved tho) and the only reasion I got stuck is cuz I backed stright into a HUGE(like over the axel huge) snow drift turning around at the end of the sub. Leave TCS on and do go "drifting" and you will be fine !

I have driven 3 different f-bodies in the snow. It is a PITA. Having to plan routes around stopping and small hills gets a bit old. And good luck if you get stuck in an ice storm. Tires help tremendously, but considering you can get a good reliable front driver for the price of a good set of snow tires and some rims... I would go the FWD route for winter. I drove 1 winter with my current car and said screw this and got a '97 Lesabre to drive in the snow. That would be my advice.
My neighbor is a manager at Joseph Pontiac, if you are interested in a GXP i'm sure he could hook you up.

Winter wasn't that bad... Just don't drive on a nice slush/ice mix with bald rear tires and this won't happen....

the worst parts about a camaro in the snow is the low ground clearance and very light *** end. put a case of lead in your trunk and some steelies with snow tires you should be good.. its partly driver too you hafto drive very slow in the snow 4x4 or not, 4x4 only has advantage of more forward traction not anything else except maybe weight. when i drove my sisters 350z through the colorado rockies in late april i had to go 15-20 or the *** would slide out. lots of people were pasing me , but i turned around to go a different way at a store/rest area. on the way back i see a 4x4 jeep on its roof, where i just was 15 minutes before them. still i dont drive my camaro in the snow. if it snows here its usually alot then it melts or is cleared fast + i dont have much need to go anywhere while its snowing.

if it's at all possible to swing it, get a winter beater too. It's worth it just to keep the salty crud out from up under and inside the body of your car where you can't get to when washing it.

i live in michigan too and my ws6 is my only car as well, but i do not suggest driving it in the snow, just try to find a different way around town until snow is plowed and then drive it. im just lucky to live so close to work that i can walk to work in the winter. and my partents have a extra car i can use too, lol

As others have said, a good set of snow tires work wonders. My car is New England daily driven for over 6 years.
No weight in the trunk, just a set of blizzak ws-50s. I've never been stuck.

Whoever says you can't drive RWD in snow is FULL OF IT!!! I live in Michigan as well and I've had a FWD car and got in more trouble with that in snow than I EVER have with any of my RWD vehicles. All seasons suck in the snow. Get a dedicated set of wheels and snow tires and put a couple 50lb bags of sand in the back(help with getting unstuck should that ever happen). If you've got traction control you're even better off. I've been driving RWD S10 pickups and Blazers in the snow for years. I just put some snows and about 200lbs in the back and I've NEVER gotten it stuck yet. If you know how to drive you'll do just fine. Don't be an idiot and floor it when it's slick or you'll be doing doughnuts into oncoming traffic. My snow tire of choice right now is Firestone Winterforce's. They have a real agressive tread pattern and last much longer than the Blizzaks do. With a V8 it won't be hard to spin the tires and the Blizzaks will burn up in a hurry. I drove my 94 Firebird V6 in the winter but it was a 5 speed with no traction control and all season tires and no real weight in the back. I survived but it wasn't that much fun. Since then I won't drive through a winter without snows. Oh..and don't be cheap..put them on all 4 corners. You need to stop and turn and those front snow tires help tremendously with that.

I would say forget it unless you have an aggressive snow tire. I tried it once on my non-snow tires and made it, but just barely. I don't see any point in getting stuck when there's no good reason. I just hop in the truck when there's snow.

I see someone post this question every year. The point isn't that you "can't" drive an f-body in the snow. The point is why would you when you can buy a 2nd car for the price of a good set of snow tires and rims.
You can drive an f-body and not get stuck with all-seasons but it isn't the best choice. I would steer away from drag radials, I did get stuck in the snow once with those on...

a couple years back, I paid $500 for my 95 dakota extra cab 4x4 power options, a/c, bedliner...had 196k or so on it, now has about 225k on it. I do my own wrenching on it, and maybe have another $500 into it in parts a couple years later now. Well right now it needs a sticker and some work, but it'll be back on the road well before the snow is It's not a chick magnet, but it let's me preserve my chick magnet

$500 won't even come CLOSE to getting anything like that in my area. You're lucky if it even runs and has all of its parts for $500. I just drive my Sonoma for a winter beater.

yeah, I was lucky to fall into that deal, I do know that. But there are all kinds of 80's gas guzzlers for sale well under 1k$, make a great beater. Oh and by the way, I'm in MA, which isn't cheap at all, and also, my truck did have a long list of minor problems I had to fix which was why it was so cheap, that, and the 196k miles.

Instead of spending 400 bucks on a set of black steelies and snow tires get a $500 beater instead. Mines a 93 vw golf m5 2.0. I paid $500, it gets 32mpg, Ive put 15,00 miles on it in the last 10 months and with the $40 crappy all season tires it is a tank in the snow. It has 179,000 miles on it and looks like hell but its better than getting stuck. Besides even if you have to do a bit of mechanical work to keep it going its better than doing body work to your ls1. Just my $.02.

A couple of years ago we had a bad winter here in Missouri.
I hit a patch of ice on the highway did a 180* and ended up in
the ditch on the shoulder wth no damage. This all took about 3 seconds.
I wish I had another vehicle to drive. I was lucky this past winter was mild.
I think you might have a lot of trouble that far North.

I'll give you some words of advice even though im only 17.
DO NOT DRIVE AN F-BODY IN THE SNOW!!!!!
It is possibly the worst thing you can do. Its a sports car and driving it in the snow makes you hate yourself and your car, so do whats best and save your car.
