As far as I know, you are always taxed based on the state/county you live in, not where you buy.

It depends on the state. Here is my experience. I purchased a car last year in Maryland. I live in Texas. I payed for the car in person in Baltimore from a dealer. He is a "classic" auto dealer, and sells most of his vehicles out of state. He said I would pay sales tax in my state of registration. I had it shipped to Texas. When I went to get the registration and stickers, I was asked to produce a bill of sale and the original title. When I provided the bill of sale, I was required to pay sales tax in the state of Texas, after which I was given my registration (of course after the car had passed inspection). I was also given the option at that time of having the vehicle titled in Texas, or retaining it's original Maryland title. So I would figure you may pay the sales tax in Deleware. However, I don't believe that is ALWAYS the case.
