Being as familiar with global trade as I am this is a pointless statment to make. We are the #1 buyer of oil in the world! Our price has gone up 250% in about 18 month. That is enough to almost cripple a country. Other countries are seeing the same types of jump in price and yes they are hurting too. I was in France about a month ago and people are changing life styles there around the cost of fuel. Its not the total price that is a killer because we can adjust. Its the drastic increase over the last year and a half.

Just a quick side note....there is nothing that ya'll can do about the price of gas....it's not worth getting mad over, just change the way you drive, or maybe not go out to eat fir dinner as often. When you check gague light comes on...just fill it up!!! WE've had to budget for gas at my home....costs us around $112/ week between a Pacifica and my daily driver Camaro just for the "privilidge" of going to work!

Remember, it's not George Bush's fault (Bush can not control the stock market, this is a capitalism, not communism), the Oil Companies fault (all they do it pump the oil, then sell it to the highest bidder, it the bid is up to $75 that's the way it is), the local gas stations fault (they buy it from the distributor that has to make a profit as well). It's the simple econimics law of supply and demand (and no, not the lack of supply of crude oil, lack of refining capabilies like ChocoTaco said). Take a look at the commodities market, right now crude oil is $75/ barrel.....that's a future COMMODITIES market, just like corn, cattle, hogs, soybeans. It's what the investors THINK that the stuff will be worth say...in the next two months. It's the investors that have risen the price of our "refined" gasoline.

This could NOT have been explained any better IMHO. My hat is 'off' to you, Splitz.

Glad to see someone who can 'see' the big picture helping out around here.

Just because channel 13 news 'says' that the oil companies are ripping you off does not really make it true... Oftentimes facts are 'omitted' to lead a person to believe a certain thing...
I choose to get ALL the facts.

Great thread LS-1TECH guys.

I seriously thought we had it bad, then I took a trip to Germany where it is freaking over 4 bucks a liter. These corporate greedy bastards are making to much money. The CEO of exxon mobile makes over 7 million a year just in income, once again, CEO not owner, the VP is somewhat close. This doesn't include his dividends and so forth. Why the hell would someone need so much money when there is so much damn poverty in the world. Guess thats the problem, 90 percent of the rich in this world don't care about anything around them, hence why gas prices are raising. Another funny fact, the price of oil is going up, however gas companies are reporting record setting quarterly profit increases.

I pretty much have to park the lightning, if I didn't have the SS I would probably spend about 300-400 bucks a month on gas.

Isn't it amazing that NOBODY complained when the price of gas was .99 cents a gallon and the oil companies were only making literally pennies per gallon. Now it's been mis-construed that they are making "obscene profits" so dubbed by the tree hugging democrats (who drive SUV's and such)

Realize this....that the US GOVERNMENT is making more per gallon off TAXES than the oil companies make per gallon.

Your facts are mistaken and obviously wrong. the oil companies are not owned by ONE man....MOST oil companies are owned by the SHARE HOLDERS. Anybody complain about Bill Gates?? Now he OWNES Microsoft, just like Steve Jobs at one time OWNED Apple. Even this....any publicy traded company on the stock makets are not owned by one person, but buy shareholds and a board of directors.

Heard an interesting statistic today......everybody that is bitching about oil compaines profits, needs to look into their 401(k) plan, your retirement, hedge funds, mutual funds, I can almost guarantee you, that some of the funds that YOU contribute YOUR money to, is invested in "a" oil company.

If you want to live in a socialism, then I suggest that you move to Europe, were everything is controlled by the government. We have the greatest economy in the world built on BUSINESS and PROFITS....this is capitaism at it's best. Laws of supply and demand take over...the way it is, if you don't like it....move!!!!

I was barley alive when the last "oil crisis" happened, what were the profits of the oil companies then?

Ya'll can't be closed minded about this really, open your eyes and bit and understand that the world does NOT revolve around the United States, there are 5 BILLION other people in the world that are in the same boat. Keep that in mind as well!

Interesting, my wife is from Southeast London, and when I bought the Camaro a few months ago she said she's never seen one before. Can't be to many F-body's around London with all of the congestion charges!

Paid 3.23 for 93 in Tampa friday. Filled up the Jeep with 87 yesterday at 2.93/gal.

The kids wanted to go waterskiing yesterday, but feeding the 3-2bbls on the boat motor is getting real ugly. To do an afternoon out on the bay we toast anywhere from 25 to 50 gallons of fuel. Popping teens outta the water on a ski for 3 hours costs more than wailing the Goat, even with the fat cam, on a road course for the day. Maybe I can get them to start kite-boarding instead of wake-boarding!
Thank Gawd the Jeep burns anything flammable. Deep discount gas for it!!
