Mine usually starts burning oil once the oil gets dirty. I keep track of my mileage but don't need to because like clockwork I start burning around 2-3K miles and just change it once I notice it burning.

I drive it like it wants to be driven and it doesn't consume any oil.

Never had to add a drop of oil. I certainly don't do anything stupid with it, but I do run it when she's out. Of course, she's a weekender/summer car, with hardly 2000 miles a year, so unless you totally thrash it, I doubt it would leak anything anyway.

mine also smokes when you rev it. I haven't had it very long but I have the feeling the engine is a piece of ****. It may find a new home

I used to burn close to a full quart when I really beat the hell out of it (most of the time) and close to a half a quart when I'm not beating the hell out of it. I recently deleted the PCV and went with a breather so oil consumption won't be troubling me anymore

Sorry but what is the point in this thread?

Oil consumption happens with most internal combustion engines. But each individual engine is different. If the LS1 had any major issues it would not have been in produciton since 1997.

I know you are looking at buying an LS1, but seriously just because they blow a it of oil back thru the PCV system are you not going to buy one based off a poll where the results are less than scetchy.

I start my car I drive my car and I have fun in my car. If it needs oil when I check it I simply add some.

PCV sucking oil doesnt matter to me. I dont want a car blowing it out past the rings and I heard the low-tension oil rings gave issues in this car. If all these problems are just PCV related, I dont care. The motor is still tight if thats the case.

I had mine burn through a quart one...not sure why but it was just one time other then that its not noticeable, and you could say i beat the **** out of it(but i do take care of it) and it still iddles around 50psi of pressure or more. LS1s are strong engines overall and most blowby in them would be a start up.

Wow...I posted this same poll in the 4.6L mustang GT forum...seems LS1's just get bad press, the GT's use oil too...

If I understand right, 99% of all LS1 oil usage is due to the PCV system and NOT rings/valves?

What is this I hear of new ring design sometime in 01-02???

Here is the oil-use for 4.6L GT's that I did on a mustang forum, so far as of NOW! 18% of the GT owners report over 1qt oil loss over 3K miles as opposed to 22% of the LS1 owners in the poll above that is now closed.
