Default how hard to pull engine?

My TA is a 2000 WS6 6spd and it seems to burn oil. I thought about putting new rings and maybe a cam. Is it a pain in the *** to pull the engine?

if it was me i would do a cam and spring change and while i was doing the springs i would change the seals on the valves cause they could be leaking
and if it still persist i would bebuild the motor

I was just looking at some springs, do you think the LS6 springs would be the way to go? The cam I am thinking about is nothing huge but I would like a noticible lope but would work with the LS6 springs. What cam would work good that would have a lope yet work with ls6 springs? I don't know much about the LS engines, I'm used to building the old 350 and such.

Seems like that might be easier...considering how far back the motor is in the engine bay. You'd probably have to pull everything out of the front end to pull it out from the top.

do a compression test...and if the numbers are low do a leakdown test...so that way you dont pull the engine if all it needs is some headwork.

doesn't it have low miles to need a rebuild? I don't understand why it smokes like it does. I don't have any cats but my C5 doesn't either. It will smoke some but it is more black. And I know the vette doesn't use any oil. I changed the oil in the TA about 250 miles ago and so far it's still full. Maybe the smoke is just scaring me.

Good call, definitely check the PCV system out first. They are known for consuming oil, even on a perfectly good motor.

Pull your Throttle Body off and look inside the intake manifold. If its all covered in oil, you've found your issue. Get a catch can or convert to breather filters to stop the oil consumption/smoking.

you got headers? mac wrote something here while back that at high rpm the headers create a vaccum and if you have weak valve stem seals namely on 853 heads that it would cause a lot of blue smoke and oil consumption thats what i have been told is wrong with mine an dim changing my valve stem seals.

Well i don't have headers but i have the gutted cats. They both bolt directly to the manifolds. Maybe I have the same problem since the cats are so close the manifolds and being gutted. OH How do you tell what number my heads are? You said the 853 heads caused problems with the seals so maybe mine are the 853 heads.
