GT500 is just a Mustang with added cubes and a blower. It isn't much different than the v6. The Z06 is a Corvette to start and is basically completely upgraded from the frame up. It really isn't a fair comparison. Now if you wanted to compare a Ford product to the Z06 you have to reach a little higher in the product line to the GT40. But then you will realize the true benefits of the Z06 as it can perform in the same class at 30% less cost.
Regarding the simple bolt of changes, as can be seen in many threads, it doesn't take a whole lot to make 550-600 rwhp on the Z06. You do have to get into the motor to clean up the heads and change the cam and bolt on some headers. If you give the Z06 one power adder to help it compete, it's not even fair.

The z06 is a street legal race car, the GT500 is a bloated woman's car with a big motor.

You can argue personal taste, whete it be looks, or sound, or brand preference. You CANNOT argue technical specifications, they are what they are. I can't even believe some people put these cars in the same sentence, no comparison.

not even close.. c6 vs gt500 is alil closer of a comparison. i havent seen the gt500 cheaper then a z06 -with markup and all maybe some places are but not any ive seen. idk what kind of drugs my local dealer is on but there asking over 100 k for a gt500 out the door. and 170k+ for a (04?i think) ford gt they have left over... also whys it being called the gt40 that was the older car it was made after the newer one is just the gt and the gt500 is just the shelby gt500 no cobra in the name.

We were indeed arguing over pure performance. He didn't seem to listen to me when I said the Z makes more power, is close to 1000lbs lighter, and traps 10mph faster. He just said repeatedly "they both make 500HP". Which, correct me if im wrong, i believe the GT500 was rated at 450 from factory and puts down about 410-420 at the wheels. I don't have to say what the Z is capable of. We all know and probably day dream about it constantly. So in conclusion, yes the argument was over pure performance and perf/dollar.

This is a silly debate. The numbers favor the Z06 in every category without a doubt over the GT500 - even gas mileage is better. Its no contest. The more correct comparison is C6 vs GT500 (at least until the new Camaro shows) and C6 Z06 vs. Ford GT. Unless someone who has driven both cars back-to-back in a performance environment cares to chime in, its all hearsay anyway.
