So then, if using Mobil 1, should we pick 0w40 or 5w40?

I've previously used 10w30 but I won't anymore.

WHY!? Where is the analysis data for 10-30 EP vs. 0/5-40. This is what im talking about, I WANT DATA! I searched BITOG and didnt find any, although I am known to be blind at times.

That's easy go put the 10W-30 EP in your car, run it for 3000 miles then send it off to Blackstone labs to have it tested. Will set you back 20 bucks...Then do the same with 5W-40.... Then report back your results

I used M1 10w-30 in my car. When I switched to a heads and cam setup with a ported oil pump I believe I used 5w-40, or what Speed, Inc. recommended. When I made this change I picked up extra oil pressure. But, with a ported oil pump the pressure is still down, but the volume is there and the valvetrain only needs 15psi to get up to the lifter valleys (from what I have been told).

I will most likely use 5w-30 M1 for my supercharged LS2.

I used Mobil One but tried Royal Purple in the exact same weight. Start up noise got very quiet and seems to be doing well. It's expensive but I'm happy with it so far.

You bastards jinxed it 1200 miles (600 was a recent roadtrip) and I checked the oil and its 1/3-1/4 qt down from when I filled her up. you jinxing bastards I guess I will try 0-30 GC to stop the "usage" (although its not all THAT bad...)

.25-.33 of a quart in 1200 miles isn't bad at all for an LS1.

Just be glad you don't have my old '00 WS6. That car used 1 quart in 800-1000 miles. That was with valvoline synpower 10W30.

I use mobil 1 5w-30 with tufoil. it raises the centistoke(spelling?) rating upwards in the 14.3 or so range that the ls1's like

The oil consumption can be attributed to the low tension oil rings , the only real flaw in the LS1 design , I think.

I added 275-300ml MAX and it raised the level to higher(BY A TINY BIT) than when I first filled her
