Are there any problems with the 1st model LS1 (just put a bid on a '97 vette) Title says it all really. I probably should've asked before I put the winning ebay bid on a '97 vette, but I've already done it. Now I'd like to know if I should be worried about it being the first model C5 and the first time the LS1 was put into anything.

definitly it has improved over the years. I am not sure of any problems that exist. I know the heads are better on the newer vehicles. hope more people chime in.

I know about the performance improvements over the years. I'm not particularly worried about those. One thing I wonder about is piston slap that I heard about when they were new.
What kinda mileage do LS1s generally go to? I know it's dependant on how well it's taken care of just like any engine. However, a well maintenanced honda will go 300,000 miles. A well maintenanced Mustang 5.0 will go 150,000 or so. Sometimes there are exceptions, but will a well-maintenanced LS1 make it 150,000?

150k is no prob for a well taken care of ls1... the manual doesnt even give an ls1 its first tune up till 100k. ive seen many with over 200k on the clock.

Cool, good to know. I'm currently trying to buy a 97 with 23k miles on it. I think I might get it for what I consider a steal, though KBB and several other price guides are giving outrageously low values on them. $15k? yeah right...
