people mod there cars bc it is our hobbie. So being my only hobbie this is where all my money goes, its all for excitement. Its for that rush when your at the line, and when your stock its fun for the 1st couple times then it gets old and your use to it so you want something new. So this is where modding begins . Usually people set goals and make them high so it takes awhile to get there. Overall modding is just for ***** and giggles..

I mod my car because I live my life a 1/4 mile at a time.

People mod their cars becasue it is fun. There is ZERO "need" to it, it's all about "want". That's what makes it a hobby.

I'm not sure how one could describe why something is "fun", becasue fun is a subjective word. Either you feel it or you don't.

I'm very serious about this, i dont understand physics and, the last thing needed is another bolt-on guide for high performance. i dont want to do a how-to, more of a why, when it started and why the industry keeps growing despite high gas prices, insurance rates, and ever more stringent emissions regulations. seems like a psychology paper now.

Bingo. Either you "get it" or you don't IMO, that's all the discussion is really.

be careful, i write papers like this all the time but there is a fine line with the technical jargon. for instance I once wrote about how 11 degree heads were better than 23 degree heads because the realative intake valve angle enabled more free drop of the intake valve assuming the size remained constant and that this in turn enabled an enthusiest to run a more agressive cam without piston to valve clearence issues. All i got was a bunch of question marks there.

FWIW people just like to make their cars their own, from simple stuff like a pine tree air freshener to the more complex like a full blown race engine, it gives people the thought they they have something unique (regardless of the reality) it's like asking why do some people plant flowers, and trees around their house, because it makes it seem like theirs, they've added their personal touch to it, same thing with a car
