LS What?
I posted this in reply to someone's thread in a different forum. I though I should post it here as well.
(Flame away )
In my expierence: (car's I have driven)
NPI 4.6 SOHC 281 w/ a few bolt ons in a BIG car went 15.4 @ 88mph
PI 4.6 SOHC 281 w/ FULL bolt ons in a Mustang beat Brian's Bolt on Ls1 w/ me driving ( went 13.3 w/ me driving)
B-series (96'-98') 4.6 DOHC 281 w/ a few bolt ons in a BIG car. Low 14s
PI 5.4 SOHC 330 (my lightning @ 4880lbs) w/ a few bolt ons. 12.7 @ 109 (no spray)
You can't compare two different cars w/ different mods to two different drivers.
For example:
I drove an LS1 MILD bolt on car to a 13.3 @ 109mph. The OWNER drove HIS same car on the same day a 14.1.
I pretty sure I could take a full bolt on NPI Mustang THAT fast.
I love how I read all these LS1 stories about what they've beaten, and then they make a generality off of that race. EXAMPLE:
"Oh, well I beat a '03 cobra, so they must be slow!"
Ok, well if that same Cobra only runs 13.5 at the track than yes THAT cobra is slow, BUT it probably due to the driver NOT the car!
It goes both ways though. I my self have given a good run to a FULL bolt on LS1 w/ Heads, Cam, & 100 shot. (I alsohave it on video )
Now does that mean that a Full bolt on, heads, cam, 100shot LS1 is SLOW. - NO it's the driver, or combitation of parts.
You LS1 guys are funny, you need to relize that the LS1 IS NOT the end all engine. There are other Engines that are just as fun (and fast.)

Yeah there are some other fast engines out there. But they generally need a turbo, SC, or nitros. The LSx motor are NOT the end all engine. But they are very quick stock. After a few bolt ons they are very hard to beat. Mine is nothing fancy and I'm in the 11's. Any car can reach its potential with a great driver, but it still has limits. This could be argued for weeks and everyone is gonna have their own opinion.
Guess the bottom line is if you do enough racing or watch enough racing you know what the "average" is for a specific make and year of car.

The LS1 like stated is not the end all be all. HOWEVER, stock/stock is has a LOT more hp than many of its competitors and it responds to mods VERY nicely. Sure you can beat them, but its an up-hill battle for most cars. You ford guys are funny Always trying to beat stock LS1's, lol. Its cool, I was there once too These guys will tell you about my 5.0 project.

If you want to compare my Lightning to an LSX engine. A good comparison would be my Lightning to a TBSS.
Also, all I did was state facts. No need to get all hot and bothered.
P.S. It only took a pulley swap to run 13.00.
