The SS is mythical

I was reading into the history of the LS1 and have read an article from GM saying that the Camaro engine and the Vett engine are not the same engine due to the oil pan and accessory drive configuration.
It's funny when some people try to act like they Know and argue with me about the LS1, Like bringing up bull **** I have never even heard of before. I might not be the guru on LS1 motors, but I think I know a little about them since I have been a big fan and reading up on them since 1999.

I think I can help ya'll out on the original poster's statement. This quote came from the Camaro catalog. I have one in my possession. It has every camaro made from 1967- 2002 with every option that was offered on every single one of those years. When it gets to the 1998 Camaro it talks about the Camaro getting a " Detuned " version of the vette motor with 305hp. Which we all know is

BJAMICK- it says the slp optioned SS from 98-00 had 320hp. 01-02 it says with slp option the SS had 345hp.

Nice article. It is amazing to see (even now) how a lot of people automatically assume that the ls1 is different in the fbody and the ybody. Sometimes it can be a real ego bruiser to proud vette owners that our lowly, undervalued ls1fbodies can put out the same or more power out to the wheels.

This goes to show you how you should really appreciate what GM did for the fbody while it lived (despite the quirks and problems), and how a lot of other people read into hype and advertising without really knowing the facts.
