think about it, not many platforms are as flexible as the LS-platform, i mean, i have an '02, LS1 motor (241 heads) but has a LS6 intake manifold and i just ordered the LS7 clutch, it doesn't get more flexible than that, LS forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's an LS1? If it's doomed within the near future, I don't wanna have anything to do with it.

My EXACT thoughts.

You know what he means, and I better hope you do since you had an LT1 TA, perhaps he should have said Gen II but still. The SBC is almost 50, not the Gen II LT1 by any stretch.

Oy, the point is, the LT1 is basically just a vamp'ed up LT-1. Better fuel/air induction and engine management stuff. Heck, the LT1 heads flow almost the same as old camel-hump heads. Point is, the LT1 also came with iron heads and in that respect IMHO is not that far removed from the LT-1 engines. The LS1 is a TRUE departure.

There aren't very many LT1 parts that will interchange with LT-1.

Gen I and Gen II are similar but not the same. Specifically the reverse flow heads.

Gen III was the big change yes.

But where would you put the LT5? DOHC. It was waaay before the LS1.

'vamp'ed' is subjective, depends how far you want to stretch it. I'll give you that the LT-5 is a TRUE departure, but NOT the LS1, if its pushrod then its just 'vamp'ed'.

YES--The change was the LSX PLATFORM...NOT the Modern LT-1.

I've given this some more thought. I've concluded that LS1s will likely be nothing more than a distant memory by 2150. So hurry up and buy your LS1 before they can only be seen in history books!!!

there are a couple of local guys that have 10 sec s-10's and would love to upgrade from their gen2 small blocks to an lsx but they think the parts are to expensive and they are waiting to see is prices drop.... that doesnt sound like they have forgotten them of think of them as being outdated...just cheap bastards

the LT5 was a special engine, a brand and series of its own.

Since we're debating the LT-1 versus LT1 let's not forget the mammoth big-block LS6 from 1970 and the modern small-block LS6

Even when gasoline runs out, my ls1 will run on corn and beer farts.

However for the money and availability it is very hard to beat.

And while the 4.6 DOHC may be big and cumbersome it has the ability to run the LS1 very close in terms of total HP. It's only the Ls1's displacement advatage that allows it victory.
I'm not totally Chevy biased, I'm very fond of my 03 snake. But I recognize how traditional yet advanced the LSX series is, for all its simplicity, it is amazing in potential.

Engines are very simply, more air in more power out. The LS1 is a product of excellent engineering, the motor is so easy to work on.

I vote LS2. The LS1 is great but the LS2 corrected most of the mistakes made with the LS1 imho.
