ok, i've been looking all over the place and i'm finding the same picture being referred to things like "devil ray" "blue devil" stingray" "corvette SS" "super coupe" and a few others. some say 6.2 s/c, some say just 600hp 7.0 n/a.

i think it's proven that the car exists and may even be produced, but nobody knows the name yet. i also read somewhere that after building and driving the car, they thought that it was a bit too much for your average enthusiast, so GM might make prospective buyers take a DRIVING COURSE before they can purchase this new "Z06 R."

i read in hot rod.........that the 09 camaro could have a ls9 which is the 427 blown 600hp.........the z28 would have the ls2 350hp....the ss ls2 400hp......ss 427 500.........then the 600hp one.......i doubt it but it would be bad ***....it would only be around a 20,000 dollar extra

yeah, all this 5th gen. stuff and new 'vette package speculation is really nerve racking. GM keeps introducing new engine platforms and teasing people with the possibility of a blower....then coming out with totally different stuff. it's nuts.

just imagine if the 'vette/camaro was offered with a blower....a cam and pulley with a tune later....that'd be like 700 rwhp

Just to let you all know, GM has their northeast headquarters here in Somers, NY and they actually rent space from the company I work for, Pepsi. I train a few of their executives and they have told me that there will be a 650-700hp corvette in '08 "project blue devil" and it may be named SS, or Stingray, nothing confirmed yet. They also told me that it will most likely be supercharged or turbocharged, although they were sketchy with the details.

They've told me it's going to a special edition Z06, although they're not certain if it's going to be a limited production vehicle or available to order at any time. Pricetag...~$100K.

The '09 Camaros are not even going to be built until the '09 calender year so it'll be a while for them, no info on platforms yet, although they'll be built at the same plant as the Pontiac G8, I got a little info on that too if anybody wants to know.

I'll keep you guys posted as I squeeze some more information out of them

Road & Track called it SS i think and Car and Driver has been refering to it as the "Stingray." They claim a supercharged/intercooled 6.2 litre I think. I'll have to check.

The corvette SS did exist. It was a race car built by Zora Arkus-Duntov (in charge of all corvette projects) I believe they several, I have all of this in a paper on my computer at home, I believe they disbanded the race cars in 1959. But it did exist, but only as race cars, not for retail sale.

I get Road&Track, C&D, and Motortrend, and it seems that the consensus is that this car will be badged the "SS". I kind of like the idea. Although Corvette has never used it, the SS name is classic Chevrolet performance. At the end of the day though, it's still a 650 hp Vette, so who cares what they call it.

Dodge just came out with the new viper to "slay" the C6Z06 and GM is dropping a bomb by coming out with a Blown Vette.......

Its not going to be turbo, Im willing to bet on that..........When has GM done a Turbo V8? Rember the turbo transam YEARs and YEARs ago....

Then the GN came along, and there was once a turbo grandam....Once lol


SC are much cheaper, and easyer to work on with far less problems.....

I too have heard of the Z06 R but I say they keep the R that does remind me a lil of rice boys type r but whatever. Sounds better than SS, thats for the Camaro damn it, how big of an engine is this gonna be? surly not 7 liters n/a....
