I just sold an Iron LT1 shortblock and will be shipping it Fedex Freight.
Your not going to be able to ship it ground, it will have to go freight.

As for boxing/pacaking it....
I would get a palet and some ratchet straps. Some thin partical or plywood for the walls/sides of the motor. Make sure it stays on the pallet and you should be in shape.

As far as shipping companies, I'd just say call round.
For a cost reference, I shipped a motorcycle back at the first of the year and for about 500-600lbs, it only cost me $650 to ship it from N. Alabama to Michigan...
Obviously a shortblock wouldn't be that heavy or expensive...
