Default Badass 347 or 408 shortblock: which to do on a budget?

Okay, need some advice: Which engine do I do.
I broke #3 piston in my 29k mile H/C LS6 GTO. Heads are stg 3 243 casting p/p ceramic coated, fat XER lobe cam to match. Was hitting a 100 shot when it let go, but the bore just lightly marked and all other pistons are fine. Hone and a piston, rings and bearings to do it right since it is out. Head can be repaired. I cannot in good conscious go cheap and put it back in my car un-forged though.

1) I found a sweet 347,lots of $$ in it like Oliver rods, Morel lifters, JE pistons, MTI 2r heads (2800 bucks!!@ MTI site) MTI "y" cam, etc etc. Pretty sure MTI built it too.
It has 2500 miles on it...wrecked car. I can get the engine for around 5k, complete longblock.

I can buy a shortblock iron 370 for 2899 or a 408 for 3600 brand new from Texas Speed with the cheaper forgings from Eagle or Compstar in it, and swap my heads and cam over to it. My heads and cam will easily feed a 408. Would need/want new timing chain setup, oil pump etc if I went this route.

The big question is, as a relatively broke single dad, which way will prove most cost effective? Long term
I plan to hit it with a 150 shot too.
Thinking the top $ engine will be a good long term solution and it is full of top notch parts.
I can then sell or part out my HC LS6, or rebuild it and sell it as a proven 425rwhp NA engine, through GTO IRS and 3.91s to boot.

Is 5k too much for a stock cube motor if it is filled with good parts that I could never afford otherwise?
Forging my engine leaves me nothing to sell off, and would cost 2k by the time it was done.
What do ya think?
I don't post much here, but have been on for a few years and see that lots of folks on a budget may have been down this road too.
Any ideas as to what my 346 is worth, fixed or parted out?
Thanks,
Bill

Yes 5 K is too much

Look at TSP's forged 347 and add oliver billet rods and a callies crank its fairly cheap and very popular.

Get the motor and slap on your H/C on that short block and you could run 150 shot all day.

Part out your motor you have and put it towards a NEW shortblock.

Thanks for your input. I agree, 5k is too much for that motor. For the same cash, or maybe a little less I could be 408Fe or 402Al. 55-59 cubic inches is significant, like 75 or so hp.
Anybody else? Should have I posted this in the engine forum?

What are your plans?

If your gonna be N/A get that badass ZL1 aluminum shortblock SLP sells(very pricey tho).

If not give TSP or some other sponsors a call they got ALL KINDS of set ups, just tell them your plans!

If I were you personally I'd do the forged 347, and just swap all my current **** over. Good luck.
