Yup. I've sold a few Evo's myself to people that I told "its got about 340 HP. 
My favorite one was "we only have front wheel drive Endeavor's (as opposed to AWD). It's better in the snow because it digs into the ground.)
Those days are behind me though. I am now trying to buy my soul back.

haha sounds to me like he's stuck in the 60s and 70s. they used to do that stuff when they had extra parts laying around and it didnt pop up in the RPO codes. my '78 TA has factory 4.11 gearing and powder blue interior even tho they didnt officially have them as an option for that year. however, they don't do that anymore, so tell him to show proof. ask him if he has the modified corvette rear suspension to match the special "corvette cam" haha! that way, all u have to do is look under the car and prove him wrong!
