So far the damn state of Kalifornia beats even the Florida prices at (drum roll) $3.55/gal for a 91. It is not even 93. What a rip-off.

Sorry for highjacking the thread-

I'm just curious- where in the USA is the gas price the lowest / highest? I was always thinking that Florida isn't that "pricey" in gas? Also, where are the car taxes the highest /cheapest?

I pay about 730$ insurance/year (30years, no accidents, full coverage), 500$ car tax/year and 6,45$ a gallon 95 premium. Every 2 years we have to let check our cars at the state inspection / emission control- costs about 100$.

So, where is the cheapest place in the USA for a car enthusiast?

Average premium is around $2.85-2.95. I fortunately live near a station that sells it for $2.75. I think regular is $2.60-2.65.

I am glad Orange Juice brought it up, actually it happens all the time. When Europeans come to the States, they notice that the prices on gas are lower. And sarcastically are happy that now it is our turn to suffer financially.

You know what "grinds my gears" :-)? You can't compare gas prices in Europe or Canada to the prices here. Two different markets with different rules. Why won't we compare prices in Venezuela ( cents per gallon)? Or take South Africa?

At least in Europe they have turbo diesel vehicles with 30-40 mpg. In damn state of 'Kalifornia' with its stringest EPA rules, getting biodiesel fuel onto the market is a damn chore. Look at E85 with its only one filling station in San Diego.

If you are in Canada, just do a propane conversion on your old trusty SBC - you got filling stations on almost every corner. Cheap and good for the environment.

I guess I should be happy that our prices haven't hit the $4 or $5 mark per gallon. But when they do, what will happen to all the rant about how lucky we are?

Btw, I came back from Russia visiting my friends there with its high gas prices - this is the country which is the biggest oil/gas producer in Europe. So naturally the prices should be as low as in Venezuela. People still pay $4-5/gallon there (converted from liters) making $500-600 per month. The government released control over the country's oil and gas resources/prices over to the private market. Greed controls the prices there now. As long as there is demand, there will be high prices which haven't gone down. They always go higher and higher. I heard the same comment about my luck in the States. I guess it all depends how the government wants to treat its own people. $hit, the income tax over there is only 13%. I would trade that for the $4-5 per gallon in a heart beat and an excellent public transportation system! I would just drive my 67 and 98 on week-ends.
