Here is the deal, the car I am going to buy has been kept in the garage since 2005, the car would be driven on some occasions the registration tags on the license plate say 2005, so my question is who pays for the new 2007 tags the guy selling the car or myself the buyer?
Would you guys happen to know how much?

He should pay b/c its his fault for not keeping the tags up to date, I would def. make him pay or at least split them, and it depends state to state, I would guess there would be late fees and crap piled pretty high already

Sellers don't pay for tags. It could be a good bargaining point if you are still negotiating on the price but the buyer always pays for new tags, taxes, title, etc.. Just consider it part of the cost. Every state is indeed different but in most states you get NEW tags when you buy a car, used or new. The seller should remove the tag, give you a receipt (bill of sale) and off you go with temporary tags from your state or state of purchase. Think ahead. Also allowed in most states, with bill of sale, is a current tag that you own that you will be transferring to the new vehicle until you can get it registered. There usually is a 10-30 day 'grace' period involved, again depending on the state. If a cop stops you, show him the bill of sale (DATE, seller's name, address, phone should be on it) and you should be OK. Have your paperwork with you if a temp tag or your own tags.
