I know with 4'10's on a relatively stock car you car gain around .5 seconds off the quarter but you have to be able to drive, with higher gears your going to spin more, so I would guess around .2 off with 373's....

READ MY LIPS: Post 1 (that's ONE if you're blind) thread about the gears , any others will get locked. And again , if you'll look at the rest of the site , there is specific forums that could answer the question here. Jeebus!

Your last request for only 1 thread per topic was sufficient and, as you can see, effective.

What kind of difference do gears make when it comes to trap speed? (I am kinda swayed to go with the 4.11's because I punched it into the calculator and I will lose about 7mph on the top end...do I plan on hitting 150+ ever? No. and the cruising will still be very low rpm, 1900 at 70mph and I wont have to take it out of OD on our 60mph roads to go up a hill/bridge).

Let's look at the title and category of this forum

General LSX Automobile Discussion
Non-technical LSX related topics <--------------------------

Now , what if you went to this this forum and asked about this?:

Gears & Axles
Driveshafts | Rearends | Differentials | Gears | 12 Bolt | 9 Inch | Dana

And concerning your calibration:

PCM Diagnostics & Tuning
LS1 Edit | EFILive | AutoTap | Diablo | MAF Translator | HPP3 | FAST | Gen7 | HP Tuners | Big Stuff 3 | ProScan

Do you see a concept here?

PS. I looked all over the board and other sites and did not see where to buy "GM" gears. All the websites I looked at offered Ratech, Motive, Richmond, and Strange. I have heard the GM gears are quietest. Where do I obtain them?

I agree that 4.10's are best for a bolt on car, but I am going to 3.90's here when I do my cam swap. You'd probably be happy with 3.90's as well, but only Motive makes them. I got mine from Summit. The brand of gears doesn't matter as much as the quality of the installation.

I really like the shift points for the 3.73's. They max out in 5th at 6K rpm at 167mph. 5mph past the limiter. Seems like they would compliment the car nicely and allow me to retain my top speed which I will probably never venture near (but hey, some guys delete their limiter so I guess its not irrational).

U.S Gear is OEM gears. thats what i have.

the 3.90 gears ive heard whine a little due to them being a new type of ratio for the 10 bolt.

Thunder Racing. Just ask them about the GM gears. The guy I talked to said they were made by Motive but somehow better....IDK. I bought them anyway lol.

As far as getting tuned for a different ratio, just find a local dyno shop and they will take care of you in a matter of minutes, and probably not charge you much.

Like many of the others, I'm gonna recommend 4.10s. I think you'll be much happier with those in a car at your power level.

I have a 5.0 with about the same powerband (a little higher revving as its a 302) as my LS1 and I dislike 4.10's in it. It feels like a dump truck. I know the T56 is different from my TKO, but I like the fact that 3.73's will still allow me to hit 162, not that I have or ever would, but I guess its a quirk of mine. I want something to compliment the factory specs.

It sounds like your set on 3.73's, it breaks down this way to answer your questions... you will probably gain .1-.15 off your ET with 3.73's and I'd say AT LEAST a couple tenths if you went 4.10's. Who cares about going 162, unless your going to Germany there is really nowhere you can do it that is legal, AND if you are going 162 on the highway, you're an idiot. 3.73's will be nice at first, but it will be like you got a smaller cam, you'll wish you went bigger. As far as whining,I agree with what the guy said earlier, it is more a matter of the quality of install than the gear manufacturer.
