Default Gtech on street tires

I'm curious to see what kind of times you guys have got on a Gtech or similar performance meter with street tires. I had my car out yesterday and ran a conservative one since I have a new tranny in. I left pretty easy and had some tire spin, but ran a 12.6 @ 113 and it was close to 90 degrees out.

I've used mine a few times, but it never stops at the 1/4 mile.

I was pretty dissapointed when I tried out the Gtech... I spun a little and it seemed to screw the whole thing up. I know the car is prolly slower than i think but it didnt seem to get the distance right... like _JB_ said..

i just gteched mine the other day and i hit CONSISTANT 14.2's and i was getting pissed. i was trapping 103-105 mph. Everytime it just pissed me off. The car hit's low 13's at the track but with a Gtech on street's i can't get ****. It's a neat thing but just doesn't seem to be accurate. I'm usually WELL over the 1/4 mile marker by the time it flashes to quit

yeah the horsepower readings have never even been close for me. Like I did one this weekend that showed 312hp with 547 tq. With a similar launch I do seem to end up with about the same runs time after time, so maybe they would be somewhat useful to gauge upgrades to your own vehicle. You would probably have to make sure you kept everything else constant though, like use the same section of road to do it each time. It is too bad they aren't more accurate, because it is a cool idea.

i used the gtech on my car and its pretty consistent with the et, but the mph is off. you have to do a couple of things in order to make it accurate with the car. the hp and tq ratings are gonna be off anyway, its just 4 sensors that measure movement, cant accurately read what the motor does from that. i had a 97 z28 that would run consistent mid 13's and the gtech would be within .01 or .02 everytime. the mph would be way off though. sometimes reading 89mph or 119mph. ive never done it on my 99 ss though.

I think my last run before I did some work to the car was 13.2 @ 108 with a 2.1 60'

I think it's decent for a ballpark estimate, especially when modding.

i always wondered about those things, and how well they actually work. i dont know how it could be very accurate cause its like those HP to 1/4 mile calculator's, its never even close cause u cant factor in traction issues.

ive never used one before so it could be more accurate then i think.

the problem with the gtech is not the unit, it is the way it is secured in the car, any, and I mean ANY extra little movement will cause them to be be off. if you secure it the same way it is good to show gain, what I mean for that is at least it with be consistent

I have had great luck with g-tech, ive used them for years and always have got accurate readings. The most important thing is to set them up correctly and make sure its level on the windshield. Another thing is to make sure you always use the same strech of road for your testing to get consistant readings. With my car now the best i've got is 13.2 @ 106. If you look at my 1/4 history on the g-tech I have about 12 runs on it and they are all within .2 of a second. I also used one when i used to have a 94 mustang and it was accurate in that car to, consistant 14.5's lol.

I agree, it’s all about the set up and road selection. I’ve found mine to be very consistent and use it as a tool for a before and after comparison of mods. BTW, I only use it for 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs…..never had any luck with the HP calculator.

I borrowed my friends once, it was one of the older models and I kept running 14.2's @ 107-9 mph. At the track I run consistant 13.3's @ 105. I put it in my brothers 91 explorer just for fun and he was running 20.x @ 75 mph, lol, and thats prolly not far off from what it runs.

The manual that comes with the gtech says it measures "net" horsepower not rear wheel or engine horsepower. The gtech's "net horsepower" value is a measurement of all the horsepower that is available to accelerate your vehicle after all power losses have been subtracted. That includes the aerodynamics of you car, so it will read lower than wheel horsepower.

I'm using it with good results, it's very consistent, and HP measurements on 2 stock cars I've checked are very close to factory figures.
