Default Functional SS hood

What all is needed to make the functional SS hood actually functional? I'm pretty sure mine is a functional version. It has the little air tunnels underneath the hood that loop around and open up right at the airbox. Sound about right?

So what is needed to take advantage of it? I know I've seen an intake that sits an open filter right in front of the radiator and I'm guessing that's what I'm looking for. Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong or point me in the direction of finding this intake?

Thanks.

im not aware of any method to make an SS hood more effective.

i went with a CAI that seals off my lid so now my hood is even more useless.

The open filter thing is on the LT1 SS and WS6 cars, best thing to do is a lid and if you can seal off the hood, I know this can be done on the T/A WS6's but not sure if it can be done on the SS's.

So it wouldn't be better to have an open filter right in front of the outlet under the hood I can't imagine the closed lid gets any extra air from the SS hood. The lid draws air in from underneath.

Really the LSx SS hoods are pointless. The Lt1 SS hoods looks like they do alot more good. I am sure an engineer can attest, but the air has to make 2 90 degree turns in an LSx hood so it can't have much velocity too it after that.

I thought about that as well. I wasn't sure how much of an affect it would really have due to how much it would have to move through the hood to actually reach the engine bay.

I've got an SLP lid right now so I figure I'll just stick with that but I was curious if you could make the SS hood more functional.
