Default Should I?

There is a 98 Z28 A4 hardtop with 50k on it for sale in my home town. The guy wants $9500 for it. I went and drove it today, it drove nice and looked to be in decent shape. The car needs a good buffing and waxing. I drive by it everyday and it always sits outside. It is a black car so you can imagine what a car that is never garaged looks like. The car was stored winters though. I think a good buffing would make it shine like new. The interior wasnt cleaned when I looked at it. The leather was in good shape, not much wear on the drivers side. The engine bay was a little dirty but not too bad. Tires were fairly new, the guy kept records of everything. He has used valvoline motor oil and a fram oil filter since he had it with 10k on it. Would that be a problem? He changed it every 3k miles. I am thinking about selling my car which has 71k on it. I would like to have an LS1 car but there aren't many around here. I would like to have ttops but don't really use them much anyway. I would prefer an M6 since my car now is one but an auto would be ok. I figure I could get the guy down to $9000 or so. Should I sell my car for this one or keep my car and mod it? I am in a dilema here. I would like an LS1 pretty bad. I don't know what to do. Any opinions?

Depends what you want out of the car. The owner sounds like me, I don't spend a lot of time polising the car but I am under it so much I sometimes think I'm its bitch. If the owner has taken care of it and you can afford it, I think you would be happy with it. LS1 A4's can double duty as a drag car and a daily driver very well if set up right. Bolt-ons, converter, and sticky tires can yeild mid 12 second ET's. Then again, you could put the money in your current car and be just as happy. Not to start a flame war, but LS1's do seem to respond to mods better than LT1's. Just figure out what would you enjoy more and the answers will fall in to place. BTW, my car has t-tops, which I don't use often, and I have come to the realization that I might be happier with out them, especially when it comes to installing a roll cage. I guess the real quetion is, did you get to floor the LS1 and what did you think at the time.

I have driven a few LS1's and I like how they pull. My Dad just got a 98 SS M6 and this 98 Z28 felt the same driving it. If it was a M6 car then I would be all over it. That and the fact that it is black is what is making this a hard decision. I would prefer an M6 but I haven't found any around here for that cheap with the reasonably low miles on it. More than likely I will just wait and keep looking, or just keep mine and mod it.

Don't buy a car that you don't really like. You won't end up keeping it very long if you do.

Don't get locked into local cars. Is it really that difficult to look within 700 miles or so and make a weekend out of picking up a car you really want?? You will probably have the car for years so what's a two day trip? Sounds like it would be fun as well. Expand your search.
