The r/t has no affect WHATSOEVER on your 60' time. The 60' time is the time it takes for your front wheels to leave the starting line, to when some part of your car eclipses the 60' mark. The r/t does not play into this AT ALL. The r/t for a dragway is merely for rookies and noobs to try and be good at something, because it is the sole thing that the car really has no affect on.

I don't think anyone is arguing that r/t has to do with ET. What they are arguing is that you can have a better ET/MPH & still lose the race. Why? cause you waited too long, anybody with enough money can build a really fast car but r/t is one of the most important "human elements" in dragracing. Do you taking your time shifting gears when you race?

I just ran my first time today.

it was about 60 degrees out and I was on really hard all seasons.

On my second run I started slidin at about the 60', when I hit second, the car pointed straight towards the wall, YIKES, luckly I stopped bout 4" from the wall and Still ran a 16.1

My last run of the night was the best. Ran a 12.9 @ 111mph with a 1.9 sixty. spinnin all the way through first. with a set of slicks, I should hopefully break into the 11's.

also, did u notice a big increase in power out-of-the-box when u got the 3.73's? i remember readin somewhere on here that when us autos get a stall, that gears dont really make that much of a difference...just wondering if thats wut u experienced?

The best way to not look like an idiot when its time to do a burnout is to just not do one. I just drive right around the waterbox and stage.

they didn't have a waterbox, it was a water line. There was no driving around it.

take your car to a parking lot and set up like you would for a race.. practice the burnout and staging... practice makes perfect..

and also, on street tires, the burnout doesnt really matter anyway.

I was nervous as hell my first time at the track. I had a 99 WS.6 with full bolt ons and 4:10's...... ON STOCK TIRES!!! Like a genious I tried launching at oh around 3 grand. Spun the tires for what seemed like an hour. I ran some humiliating time. Next couple of runs did much better but still couldn't hook for crap. Like low 14's at 107. Big surprise. Came back to the track with drag radials and stripped a full second off my stock tire times. From then on I was addicted. I would race once or twice a week until I couldn't afford rear end gears anymore and sold the car. I am afraid that once i get my Formy to the track I will be hooked again.

my first trip to the strip in my 72 camaro i decided to stop in the waterbox brake torque the hell out of it. Then drove it out of the waterbox while not burning out. Needless to say my one wheely peely 2.73 camaro killed most of the mosquito population in wentzville that night...

It's better to start stock than to build your car to 400rwhp and go with bald tires in a 6spd.

My first time:

I seem to do fine w/ the burnouts, I drop it into 1st and let them rip. My rear Brakes hate me though, I need a line lock badddddd!! In the past month, Ive went to test and tune 3 times. I have ran a worst of 14.3@105 & a best of 12.96@108.42 Ive done alot of 13.3's and 13.4's. I tuned it recently and am down to an average of 13.00@108 mph. I cant seem to get below a 2.04 60' on my Nitto 555 Streets though

I thought i did great off the line for my first time there, believe it or not i was releasing the clutch off and getting great grip from the start and still launching hard, but after that all i wanted to do was rip it and push it.
Good luck sidwayz28

Some tracks do not have that option, Atco, NJ for one. E town is good, you can drive around that water box, but you must drive thru the waterbox at atco

In real drag racing more races are won or lost on the tree than anyhwere else.

We just had some grudge matches for my work this weekend at the local test and tune. I won two races against faster et's because of R/T. It is important, it's called driving. Watch the pro's drag race. The cars are generally so close the races are won or lost by R/T. The "noobs" generally have the worst reaction time, then panic when the light goes green, mash the pedal and spin the first 60, so it can affect the 60 foot time. It would take good power to run a 1.69 60 and if you only care about the ET, I don't think you would let out causing the god awful slow 15 second run. Smells like BS to me.
