Why would you try it for the first time at a busy red light? Try it in a empty parking lot and ease it out slower, make sure you don't have your air conditioning on maybe.

You should be able to take off all day long in a m6 Ls1 with out giving it any gas....if you can drive a stick. I've only killed my car once and that was just because i forgot i was still in 3rd. 3rd from a stop plus no gas trying to take off is never good

Taking off without using the gas is how I learned the friction point on my clutch, since this was the first manual car I have owned.

I've started in 3rd before when I was tired, and wondered why the rpms stayed so low...

yea you can wouldnt rec. but pull out from a dead stop in 3rd mabye 4th but 3rd will bog down pretty damn lowbut you wont stall like a honda would lol. You could basically pull out in 3rd while a honda pulls out in 1st and still be able to beat it to 60

Even when I pull off the clutch moderately fast it still moves without stalling. But then again half my driving is in stop and go bumper to bumper traffic so maybe I am use to it by now.

. You can let the clutch out really slow with NO gas and it will engage. But normally driving you dont even need to raise the rpms, they can drop to 500 or 600 rpms no problem. However the only bad thing about the m6 is the really close gears, so on the 3-4 and 4-5 shift the rpms drop really fast. It makes it kinda difficult to drive it smoothly. But just learn to work the gas and you should be fine.

Off idle no problem (that includes being stock).

Why would you ask this question on a forum instead of just trying it? Stalling the car once or twice isnt going to hurt it. You dont need a buttload of torque to start off, my DD eclipse with 100hp could roll with no gas just letting the clutch out. I would say practice a bunch if you feel like you need to look at the tach to tell instead of just going by how the car feels.

I am getting refresher lessons and learning all I can because I would like to know what I am doing before I show up at somebody's house and ask to test drive the car they have for sale. Plus, since the last time I drove a stick on a regular basis was 20 years ago and in a rural area; I wanted to know what I was getting myself into with a car that is going to be my DD in downtown Atlanta.

I can understand that I bought my m6 z28 about a year ago my last manual was in 03 and it was a 4cyl s10 extreme until I bought my z i drove an a4 nissan.I drove my car off the lot and to my house in the rain and it was pretty nerve racking. and skip shif was freaking me out i'm like wtf this thing wont go in 2nd taking it easy hahaha its like they want you to go fast.I wouldnt worry though a lil practice and you'll be fine

Depending on how much time you spend slipping the clutch, you can easily do it at idle.
