If you have to ask the question, I think you'll be dissapointed. Good things happen to those that wait. Power wise, it will be huge. The best thing to can do is test drive an A4 and see how it feels. If you can live with it, then go for it, but if you have one ounce of uncertainty, then wait it out. I made this mistake with my last car and ended up selling it the next month. good luck!

It's well known that the LS1 doesn't feel as fast, but is faster than the LT1. Going from a M6 to an A4 at the same time... Yeah, I think you'll feel like your 94 was a little faster, if it ran well.

I had a '94 M6. Raced a friend's '98 A4. Saw it's taillights. Switched cars for the fun of it and raced again. Same outcome, but my old LT1 felt faster.

Now i have a '99 M6, and it feels about as fast, but it's not quite stock either.

If you're even asking the question, wait & find a m6. I wish I would have. I'll be swapping to a t56 as soon as the budget allows.

mmm I see I do love my stick, Sometimes i feel like i want an auto, but most of the time i love the stick.

How does is it that an LT1 feels faster, but isnt?

I think it is mainly because peak torque comes on lower in an LT1 than an LS1. 2,400 rpm to be exact (I would have to look up the LS1). Torque is what you feel, but horsepower is what most affects 1/4 mile times, this is where the LS1 has an advantage. Since my car is mainly for driving on the street with an occasional track visit for fun, I am in no rush to move to an LS1. LT1s are fun.

Ok I see what you mean. I got the new auto mag for this area, and i found a 2000 SS m6 for sale. Dont know price or miles yet the place is closed for the night. This area has never had much of a selection of F bodys, but lately I have seen 2 LS1 Z28s' 1 LS1 SS 2 LT1 TAs' and a LT1 Formula and 5 V6 camaros. We usually have only 1 or 2 v8s and 1 or 2 v6's in this area at a time. Probly cuz of gas. just went down from 355 for prem. to 299.

Sometimes fate can be a funny thing. I wanted a M6 for the "fun factor" of rowing gears. But I wasn't able to find one in my area at the time I bought my Formula. For awhile I was miserable and considering the A4 to M6 swap. I had even started saving money towards it.

Then I met a friend who was a regular at the local 1/4 mile track. He showed me the ropes and convinced me that a stalled auto was a good thing. Next thing I knew I was doing research here at ls1tech for hours at a time. Then I spent the money I saved for the M6 swap on a stall, tranny cooler and drag radials.

Now I'm hooked. I want a bigger stall, tougher automatic transmission and lower ET's. If I totaled my car tomarrow (god forbid) I would definately replace it with another automatic.

Point is if you get an A4 for any reason then stall it and see if you like it. You might find that the M6 is the only choice for you. But you might also find that the auto can kick *** like I did.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Yeah, a stock auto LS1 might feel a tad slower than your LT1 from a dig where the low tq of the LT1 shines, but get it out on the highway and the LS1 is much faster in the higher RPM range. I think you'd be happy with the way a stalled LS1 performs.

Should fill a bit slower.

Drive it see if you like it. Autos are cool for big stalls! And can turn great times.

I waited until i found a m6....I love the feeling of going thru the gears, and I love being able to downshift on the freeway when some little ricer messes with me and smoke him....But, you should really go and drive both and see which one you like better....

i think peak torque for stock ls1 is 4200 rpms which is when the car feels fast as hell when youve got it floored.

Does running lower AND more consistent E.T's at the strip disappoint you?

If yes, this swap will disappoint.
