Is an '04 Silverado SS worth buying?

An H-3 hardly pulls itself. What do you expect from a 5 cylinder on a Colorado Platform?
Crew Cab Z71 I assume a 1/2 ton? or Avalanche. The Avalanche, on our Suburban frame, provides a better ride empty. If you go 2500 Z71 in a crew you get the 6.0. The SS came with AWD and the 6.0. I think I remember the SS being limited in towing because of the suspension. Towing - truck - and economy is a strange combo.
I think the best combo is our smoker with a Crew cab. It's on the 2500 frame. The trouble is finding a good one. KBB says 31,000 for a 2003 with 45K. I called a guy and sold ours before it hit the lot for 28,900, it's an LT with a DVD. I was playing with the controls on the way to detail today. When pressing the button for average MPG it showed 19.5. You'll never get that with a gas engine. You'll also blow the doors off any and gas engine towing in the hills.
