Yes, it's 100 true, SS = Z28 = SS when it come to factory power level. There is no difference in track times or dyno numbers.
The SS package is NOTHING more than appearance and some minor suspension differences. If you bought it because you thought it'd be quicker than a Z28, then you've been fooled by GM marketing.

Yes, the SS is an appearance package. No, the super-cool looking hood scoop doesn't gain you anything other than a few more looks on the street. Some sites say that because the hood gets hot, it has the potential to lose negligible amounts of power, but either way, it doesn't matter at all.
Yes, all stock cars put out somewhere in the range of 300 at the wheels. Bit more with the M6 than the A4 (though the A4 will still be the weapon of choice for the drag strip, of course). So, the article is correct as others have said.
Your quarter time is right in there for a good average run for a stock car on junk rubber.

Replacing the LT1 was GM’s all-new LS1, which had been introduced with the fifth-generation Corvette in 1997. It featured the same OHV design, but was cast in aluminum, reducing weight. While the engine had been "detuned" slightly with only single exhaust (which would split into two when it exited the underside of the car) the small number of changes between it and the Corvette version — as well as the real-world performance — make the 305hp rating that GM assigned it in the Z28 a rather conservative estimate. Dyno reports and performance figures support the notion that all LS1 cars, regardless of Chevrolet’s figures put out 345 hp.
The 2001 Z28 and SS models received the intake manifold from the LS6 (the engine used in the fifth-generation Corvette Z06.) Accordingly, the horsepower rating was increased to 310 for the Z28 and 325 for the SS, although both models remained underrated.

I wish this was True!

Jeeeze o whizzz...man we just had this thread a few days ago. Listen....I work for GM.....and I can assure you...all LS1's, (untampered with) from GM have the same horsepower. If you buy an LS1 crate engine...they all have 350hp at the flywheel. If you but a 2001 Z28 it has 350hp at the flywheel....a 2000 Vette has 350hp at the flywheel.....a 2002 s5th anniversary SS Camaro has 350hp at the flywheel.....a 2002 Trans Am has 350hp at the flywheel.
Damn....it's a fact! Do we need any more threads asking this question?

Except for a lid and a Corsa catback, my SS is stock. I had it dynoed last fall for the first time just so I would know what it had before I started any real modding. It put down about 305 RWHP. The tuner told me it was around 350-352 at the crank. Here you go:
