I achieved 155+ not too long ago on a long straight empty highway with my stalled A4 and 3.23's. I was seeing what kind of top-end difference the LS6 intake made.....turned out it made quite a bit. The car felt very stable the whole time (Bilstein suspension). I wouldn't do it again, and I didn't intend to do it that night, but it just happened. M6 would own top-end over an A4.

Now you have to take wind resistance and drag into account.. 166 on a dyno is not the same as 166 on the highway..

damn dyno racers..

Well if you wanna get really technical, there could be the heat generated from the friction of the tires causing them to expand, plus the tires may be taller from spinning at those speeds....whatever....162 is the stock governor.

I can't believe the few comments about not pulling in 5th, from LS1 people. My car pulls 5th gear fine, did with the 3.42s and sure as hell has no problem doing it with the 4.10s now. Just bolt ons here. I don't know about stock, I have all spohn stuff in the rear suspension, bilstein HDs with the factory springs, slp subframe connectors. Car has always felt stable at 150.

Pointing out wind resistance is not getting technical.. I know what he meant, I was joking with him. It's one of the biggest factors of top speed. Why do you think exotics meant for top speed like the Veyron spend eternities in a wind tunnel?

Back when I had 3.23 rearend gears, I hit 4th (A4) at 128 mph and when I hit 142, I still had nearly the entire gear range of 4th still left. I guarantee it would have hit more than 160 before redlining ... if I had the room and the wind drag wasn't so bad, I think it would have redlined at about 175.

I know, I was just poking fun too. This thread has become stupid really. They both hit the limiter at 162 mph. Redline on both is 6250 rpm.

Doesnt matter if its A4 or M6, they are both going to get there. 6th gear is overdrive,(and so is 5th technically). In an A4, 4th is overdrive and its my understanding thats its not in play at those speeds, it tops out in 3rd.

Now thats assuming a mostly stock gear in the rear, if you have some 456's out back, that changes it completely for both of them.
