In answer to the thread title, no.

I did not buy a sports car until I could “afford” it. Even then, I bought a WS6 instead of a Firehawk, which is what I really wanted. I ended up paying about $440 in loan interest, and had my car paid off 13 months after I took possession.

if you can do it, just stick with it. Hopefully the car doesn't have too many miles on it and won't give u any problems (it shouldn't, these are great cars). You got what you wanted and now you are paying for it (while it definately is a higher price than most have had to endure).

Well, this is now my "toy" car and making payments on it, because of the mods that I've done. I've only put like 2000 miles on the car since June which makes me feel a bit better.

I can't find the warranty papers at the moment. See, I was 17 when I bought the car so the parents really insisted that I buy from dealership and a warranty. I've paid every dime on the car but it sucks to know I could have paid half private party and have it paid off and modded by now.

But, like some of you said, atleast I'm paying on a badass car. I love this thing on the highway. I just need to use this experience as a lesson and never do anything that dumb again.

On the bright side, I may be able to pay 2 years worth this year which will make a considerable difference.

Thanks all,

Kyle

man im glad i pay for all my cars cash, hell double glad my dad has been building high performance cars for 40 years, and i have several years of custom painting under my belt.

I ended up getting a too good to be true deal on my low mile ( just hit 39K) 96 ws6 6 spd ttop formula, because the paint sucks on it ( easy fix for me anyway) and it needed a few minor odds and ends from sitting for so long ( long story short, a lady owned the car, opti crapped in 2000, she couldnt afford to fix it for a few years and had a second car, so it sat outside... in the sun.. and baked the dash, hood, pretty much all the paint) and i swooped in for the deal, if i really told you how much i paid, i think you would jump in front of a bus.. anyway the moral of my story is, good deals ARE out there, its just the right time and place for everything, me personally, im a lucky basatrd when it comes to these deals ,hell i bought my 1 owner, garaged, 100% stock, 70 year old man owned mustang gt convert for $400 bucks, yes 400, because the quarter was smashed.. a brand new nos quarter from the carlisle swap meet, and she was mint... of course then i dropped about 15 grand of turbo motor, 5 lug, suspenison and other goodies in her but...

If you know your going to buy a car and mod it, getting the extended bullshit is pointless, and a waste of money imo, not to mention ive worked for dealerships and have seen so many terrible techs

It does suck having that feeling everytime you drive it. Better take it easy on the rear end, if that goes your screwed. I got my 98 ta for 7600 with 76000 miles, owe 5k on it, pretty well off i think.

I do not own a LSX right now but plan to in the near future. I am also not upside down in a loan on my current viechle. I paid it off 7 months after buying it.

I would really like to get a Camaro or TA right now but I dont want to pay on it forever. Thats why I plan on saving through the winter and start looking in the spring so by then I will have enough for a very large DP or enough cash to buy one with cash. I hate loans so I will always buy my cars like this.

If you cant finance it for 3 years you cant afford it. I like to do even less than that, if possible.

Can't you sell the warranty back? I know that when I bought my car used, I also got a 3-year warranty that was ~$3k. I just wanted to make sure the thing wasn't going to blow up in the first couple months if there was something wrong with it, and I got rid of it after 6 months, and they sent me a prorated check. If your warranty cost you $4,500, you could feasibly get $3k back.

Him and the other 1/2 dozen people, this all woulda been great to hear BEFORE he bought the car!

Hang in buddy, it seems overwhelming now, but if you treat her right and stick with the payments, in a few years you'll have a great toy that's paid for and it'll be worth all the frustration, I know lotsa people that worry about payments, so you're not the only one out there.

Your parents gave you bad advice. You should have gone to a credit union and gotten pre approved for a loan, found the best deal on a car, then bought an aftermarket warranty if you really wanted one. Or you could have put away 1 - 2 hundred a month in the bank with what you saved by going this route as an emergency repair fund. If no big repairs pop up, you would have saved the cost of the warranty and had $$$ in the bank.

I know it's live and learn, but considering they steered you so wrong, might want to take what your parents tell you with a grain of salt. You'll get much better advice on the boards, automotive, financial, etc.

Well, I'm paying about $50 more a month, is that going toward the principla or interest when you pay extra?

Its not like paying my mortgage through Wells Fargo, they only give you the option to pay as a whole payment, not add extra and SAY where it goes.

The TA is my Toy car. I paid cash for it.
My Grand Cherokee is my DD. Put 1K down, and financed 32K. $713/month payment.
I'm so UPSIDE DOWN I had to glue soles on my baseball cap and mirrors on my feet to see out the windshield so I can drive!
