Default getting keys copied

I went to walmart today to get my copies. The guy behind the desk was stumped as to why there was that black thing in the middle of the key. He had no keys that matched it, but for $2 i let him try out another one to see if it worked. In the end, the ignition and the door key I paid for didn't work. Has anyone else had this problem? I plan on going to sears, home depot, or lowes tomarrow to get better service.

our keys like most new cars have chips in them. you have to go to a dealership to have a copy made. it cost me close to $30 to have the ignition key copied

Go to any GM dealer and they just need your VIN. it's like $80, but try to get a hookup. I've gotten them made for $20 before.

you test the chip in your key with a volt meter to see which one it is.
do a search and you will find info on the different resistors it could be.
then just buy the blanks on ebay and have them cut at a locksmith.
I paid $12. for the blank and then another $3 to have it cut.

You apparently got a rookie at Walmart. The door key should copy like any other key. The ignition key has a resistor (the black thing) that the new key needs to match. A GM dealer can read the chip and make a copy with a matching chip. I had mine done at a dealer and it cost about $30.00. Hardly worth the bother to mess with getting a matching blank on ebay.

rookie at wal mart? he was correct by saying he cant cut the key. compare the keys, they are not the same size (ones with vats to ones without)

so, wal mart guy was RIGHT. you need to go to lock smith, dealer.

or

ebay route, i did. 18 bucks for 2 keys, and got them cut for 1.99 each, so i got 2 keys for 22 bucks or so.
