Yes, all that a V-design means is that the fuel gauge need a non-linear calibration. No idea if it's easy to fix, but that's something that should be worth talking to the dealer. Mine ('99) is pretty close to a linear, never had a problem in 7 years..

if there are so many instances of that problem, than GM should have issued a recall on that [just like that should have for the window motors..].

Yes you are lucky my driver side motor is about shot and i'm at 32,000 miles. My gas hand goes above F and stays there for about 30 city miles before it gets to the F and then once it gets to 1/2 it seems to fall quicker.

Mine does it as well, ive also had to replace the fuel sending unit, one day driving a chick home from a date, the car decided to run out of gas. lol, the dominoes guy and me pushed the car into a gas station.. i was so close too...

but yea after a half a tank, that needle goes down faster then my window motor.

Welcome to fine GM products. My Formula does it. My 96 Impala did it. There was a fix for the Impala tho. I cant remember who made it. Ill give a look on the impala forum.

I tried to cut it alittle too close once and ended up walking. My wife is famous for driving her car to E.She was going to take my car one day and I had to make it very clear to her that if the needle touches E it really means it.

Lots of good replies - it seems I am not alone! This problem isn't the end of the world or anything - it's just annoying. The gas guage could pretty much be replaced by a dummy light that says "full", "kinda full" and "You will be walking in 5 min."

Your gas gauge is the most inaccurate gauge in any car. It's the only instrument that uses the same design since it's original creation back with dinosaurs existed.

Mine is okay. However, I notice that when it stays at one point for a while, if I put it in nuetral (like someone else said on here), it re registers or something and will drop like 1/4 tank. Its almost like it takes a direct reading when either in park or neutral, and then guestimates it until it hits park or nuetral again????

you can reprogram the gauge to be more linear, the factory programming in the pcm keeps it from being linear.

I always fill up at 220 miles, regardless of the fuel gauge, so it does not bother me.

My gauge moves really slow to start with. Takes 90-100mi, to get off full, then moves progressively faster as the tank empties. I just use the trip odometer to gauge how far I have left to drive before empty. When it reaches 1/4 it's time to find a station!!

Mine is kind of the same way, full for quite a while then once its about a 1/2 tank it seems to drop faster. I usually fill up when it is around 1/4 anyway.

Although the other night when I was between 1/4 and 1/2 I took an "aggresive" turn and the gauge dropped right to E and the check gauges light came on. Thought that was weird, but by the time I made it to the parking lot nearby, the gauge finally crawled back up to its original spot.

My '94 did that pretty bad. My 99 doesn't do it at all. I can drive on E forever.

my 93 is horrible like that. the first time i realized it was about a week after i got it. this mustang was messing with me, and i finaaly realized it at a red light. it was very suttle, he yelled car sounds fast wanna run. lmao. so i smiled and nodded. we shot off and i took him like a champ , then sputtered, missed, sputtered aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand rooooolliing. he flew by me laughing. i pulled into the middle turn lane in near rush hour and walked to a gas station. it was embarrassing. and it never goes below 1/4. i can ride on 1/4 for about 20 min then gone. i want to get a race unit to put in the hatch but im worried about spillage and smell.

Same here...when I fill up completely full, it doesn't quite get to the F mark. 30mi and its down to 3/4. Stays there for quite a while and once it gets below 1/2, it drops fast. When i brake, the needle shoots towards E, and when I get on it, it shoots towards full.

Just keep it floored all the time and your tank will always read full.
