The number of people in that room who could have written a check for a million or more would blow your mind. To see the looks on some of those guys faces when they won a auction, you would have thought they just ordered a pizza. No emotion for most of them.

The guy that got that car got a few things. He got 000001 and a color that will be retired after his car plus it is pure sex on wheels and he gave a shitload to charity. It is really a win/win situation for all involved. He gets a cool car and gets to write off a bunch for charitable contributions.

obviously the guys buying it as a collectable. you dont spend a mill on a 100k car and go drive it around. In 30 years, when it has no more than 1000 miles, and emissions are even more ridiculouls than they are right now, and it goes down as the only zr1 made in lemans blue, the car will be worth more than the mill he paid for it. look at those ultra rare shelbys, even if a guy paid 10x their worth back then (50k?) theyre still going for a good 600k+. Its a 1 of 1 car that will go down in history with the most rare cars ever made
not to mention hell probably get 800k of that back through various writeoffs...

It was nice of the guy to give that much to charity, (everything over MSRP), and I believe that BJ waives their commisions, (basically 20%), on charity auctions.
Hell if I had that kind of money laying around and I could help out some kids at the same time getting a piece of history and a beautiful car. I'd sure think about doing the same.

ACTUALLY.... the shocks can sense a drag launch, and will rebound at 100% when they do, theres a bunch of ****, but to say its no technology, well, ignorance is bliss. haha. i have all the details at my house but dont have the specifics in front of me. oh and it comes from the factory with a twin disk clutch!
Sorry..just need to make a few corrections....
The REAR brakes are the same as the ones on the Enzo...(15in carbon fiber units)
Also the paint is not $60K a gallon..The clear coat that keeps the carbon fiber from looking like shyt is $60K gallons. Its a special mix that is used on computer chips to keep them sealed.
And there isn't really any technology. Its a built engine w/ boost and sweet brakes ,etc. Nothing new in the European world, but it will definitely pack a punch to 75% of the exotics

$1MM is a good chunk of change for a Corvette, however owning a piece of history and getting a tax savings of between $300 - $400K (depending on the percentage of the proceeds that went to charity and the buyer's marginal income tax bracket) make this seem like a pretty nice buy. Several years from now, I imagine he could still get $500K+ out of it as long as it's been properly stored.
