If I were doing it for a good friend, I wouldn't charge a thing. If it were just someone I knew but wasn't a "good friend" that needed it done $150-$200. What kind of friends are you guys charging someone $500 for labor

I paid roughly $1,200. for full install and dyno tune (which also includes return trips to the dyno if I change my setup).

For $200 I wouldnt take on that responsibility. If they were close freinds I would do it for free, but an acquaintance minimum of $500 for cam and springs when you consider that he is trying to help his buddy out. Dont put him in a position where he is making a minimum. Cam only could be less I guess, but I dont think I would do a cam without the springs.

For those that paid $1200 and up for tune and install, well the tune is about $350, or at least around here thats what I paid. So the rest was install. I think a $350 and up off the shop is pretty good for an acquaintance. And nobody has said anything about springs.

And why would you remove the a/c and whole front end and bumper to do a cam? I dont think I would trust that guys work. Why the hell would you do all that for a cam?? Set valve lash? I didnt know these cars had that capability. AND they didnt even do springs? Wow.

Why not give him $500? The whole point of having him do it is because he needs a little cash. Plus is still cheaper than going to the other places you've checked out. Win-win

What's the minimum that needs to be removed to install a camaro cam?

Shops around here charged $500 for a cam and springs, I'd rather have them do it than a buddy for the same price. If he knows what he is doing, give him $200.00.

If he's a buddy, and hurting for cash...Maybe pay him a little more just as a favor, be a good pal.
a tune for these cars is a bare minimum of $100 (thats what credits costs before tuning even BEGINS).....so basically you paid $100 for a cam/swap, and $100 for the credits for the tune, and thelabor for tuning was free. wow.....thats a deal.

Hey best Bud, I have a H/C, intake and elaborate dual stage nitrous system all ready to go, ill give you a case of beer...

Nothing more expensive then coors lite though!!!

We charge about 550 for a cam install on an F-body. Which is pretty fair when you are having reputable shop doing it. someone you could come back and bitch to if something doesnt work right. as for a friend doing it on the side, give him 200 bucks.

Now, how good of friends were we when I ordered my spray setup a month ago?

And I like chick beer, in whatever chicky flavors are popular at the moment. Sure you would trust me with a wrench?

Its really not hard to do yourself if you have some mechanical sence of whats going on with a motor. LS1howto.com has an amazing write up. I am doing my first cam swap myself right now and its not as hard as people make it out to be. I wouldnt say its "hard" its just time consuming making sure your doing everything right and not missing anything. Id do it again for 500.00
