If I were doing it for a good friend, I wouldn't charge a thing. If it were just someone I knew but wasn't a "good friend" that needed it done $150-$200. What kind of friends are you guys charging someone $500 for labor

For $200 I wouldnt take on that responsibility. If they were close freinds I would do it for free, but an acquaintance minimum of $500 for cam and springs when you consider that he is trying to help his buddy out. Dont put him in a position where he is making a minimum. Cam only could be less I guess, but I dont think I would do a cam without the springs.
For those that paid $1200 and up for tune and install, well the tune is about $350, or at least around here thats what I paid. So the rest was install. I think a $350 and up off the shop is pretty good for an acquaintance. And nobody has said anything about springs.
And why would you remove the a/c and whole front end and bumper to do a cam? I dont think I would trust that guys work. Why the hell would you do all that for a cam?? Set valve lash? I didnt know these cars had that capability. AND they didnt even do springs? Wow.

I paid 200 for mine installed....was going to do it myself but I said screw it with that price, and it was done over the weekend...tuned also. Just saying it doesn't have to be expensive, that being said....
If he's a buddy, and hurting for cash...Maybe pay him a little more just as a favor, be a good pal.

Nothing more expensive then coors lite though!!!
We charge about 550 for a cam install on an F-body. Which is pretty fair when you are having reputable shop doing it. someone you could come back and bitch to if something doesnt work right. as for a friend doing it on the side, give him 200 bucks.

And I like chick beer, in whatever chicky flavors are popular at the moment. Sure you would trust me with a wrench?

Its really not hard to do yourself if you have some mechanical sence of whats going on with a motor. LS1howto.com has an amazing write up. I am doing my first cam swap myself right now and its not as hard as people make it out to be. I wouldnt say its "hard" its just time consuming making sure your doing everything right and not missing anything. Id do it again for 500.00
